Newborn's poop

My DS is one week old and since my milk came in his poops have been thicker than what I expected. My DD (also ebf'd) always had the classic, mustard seedy, loose, stools. But DS's are bright yellow, have "mustard seeds" to them, but are also kind of thick and pasty. It's kind of hard to describe, but they're definitely not loose. Has anyone had this happen with their little one? My midwife says she hasn't seen any like it so I'm kind of concerned.

ETA: His poops are also smelly, kind of sulfuric?

I'm guessing 8 that are of substantial size.

For me, if the quantity is good, and baby is not fussy/in pain, and the poops are not hard (they don't sound solid from your description) then I don't worry so much about the colour (as long as they are no longer meconium, bloody or black), or the consistency.

There is a good poop article here that may help: http://drjaygordon.com/pediatricks/general/poop.html

Give him some time, and they'll probably develop into what you're used to. The first week is just plain weird.

Ds2 often had what I call "Peanut Butter Poop". It was the consistency of warm peanut butter. It didn't start until he was more than 4 weeks old, but for him it was normal. They were also smellier than Ds1's. Not disgusting and "poopy" per se, but they had more of a smell. Almost like mayonaise. Sometimes microwave popcorn.
