Chicken pox vax for adult? Will my kids get it from shedding?

I'm almost 34 and have not had the chicken pox. During my most recent pregnancy I had my titers checked and I am not immune. Should I get the vaccine? Could my 6 week old and 4 year old get the pox from me getting the vax? Can I get the vax if I am breastfeeding? Not sure what to do here. Thoughts?

What makes you suddenly worried about Chicken Pox now? You've lived 34 years without getting it. It's pretty good odds you've been exposed before. Titers are not always indicative of immunity.

Alright now that I've had more time to look I found another thread that had pretty much the same question I had.

What do the titers show if not immunity? Just wondering. Interestingly, I had my rubella titers checked when I got pregnant and I was neither immune nor immune according to my midwife. AND last pregnancy over 4 years ago I was checked and I was immune to rubella.

Some people will never show up immune. My sister and cousin are both examples. My sister for one had child hood mmr, post 1st child because they said she wasnt immune, PRE nursing because of the same thing but refused after her 2nd child because she realized it didnt matter HOW many vaccines she had the titer wouldnt show. My cousin the same way childhood and after 2 of her children.

I would not get a live vaccine with an infant in the house. Do you /would you have a plan in place in case it triggers a case of full blown chicken pox?

Ya know it really irks me that my midwife told me "it's ok to get it, you should get it, you can't get the cp from the vax" and the family dr I saw a couple times during pregnancy told me to get the vax after birth and she new fully well that I would be nursing and have another child.

So I will not be getting the vax today when I go for my appointment. I'm glad I jumped on here to get some more info before my appt.

And may be I am immune and the titer is not showing it. My sister, who I lived with, got the cp when she was little 5? and I was 12 and I never got it. Also, 2 childhood playmates/neighbors got it and I never did.

Thank you.

Thank you.
My MIL is in her 50s and managed to get through her own childhood and that of her three children without contracting a clinical case of chicken pox.

I would not get a live vaccine while nursing.

I've had 3 MMR's...I've also had Measles, Mumps and CP naturally. I still show no measurable titers for Measles, CP or rubella. I do show titers for Mumps though.

I'm not sure that titers are at all reliable.

I would not get a live vaccine while still nursing, would not take the risk of passing onto your baby. If I was considering it, I'd at least wait until nursing was over, even if that was a year or two.

I was in the exact same situation as you...I went through my first pregnancy and was told to get the vaccine after ds was born. I didn't feel comfortable getting the vaccine while I was nursing. I got pregnant with ds#2 while I was still nursing ds#1. Then...when ds#2 was 3 months old, ALL 3 of us got the chicken pox! It was unexpected to say the least and the timing was not ideal, but it was not that bad at all and I don't regret my decision to not vax.
