Should I take the prog. supps?

I know - just wondering what you personally would do, I know MDC is not a doctor site yada yada. Just want to know opinions

Here's the story - 2 losses, different weeks gestation. I was on 100mg progesterone supps (50mg in morning and night) from 10dpo with the last pregnancy as they felt it couldn't hurt and my last loss before that was due to LPD due to nursing.

So. I still have 16 100mg supps left, and I'm 95% positive I ovulated late yesterday or early today. I was thinking of cutting them in 3rds and doing 33 mg at morning/night to help support my LP (last LP right after the m/c was 8 days - before it, it was up to 11-12 days from 5 days) - that would make 24 days worth of supps., enough for 2 cycles if I don't get pregnant this cycle.

The only thing is that if I do get pregnant this cycle, we just moved and I don't have an OB here - I'd have to continue taking them and get a doc to prescribe them and it would be a huge pain. I'm going to be going with a midwife anyway, can midwifes prescribe them?

So that's the story - what would you all do? I'm wavering between taking them, or just taking B6 like I did last time from O.

so you think you still have the luteal phase issue? im guessing yes. some would say 11 days is ok, but did you mean that was while on progesterone?

ok, IF it were me. first, i would definitely be taking b6 with a prenatal vitamin also- if you are ttc, the pnv is important even before conception, and the b6 shouldnt hurt- the dose that is recommended for lpd is 50-200 mg/day. supposedly, if you take b6, you should take a b-complex as well, but the pnv should cover that. it's recommended for lpd that you take it from cd1 all through your cycle.

re: progesterone. if you think you had a loss or maybe 2 losses due to a progesterone issue, again if it were me, i would want to be on it. i'm not so sure that tiny dose would be enough to work if you divide up what you have. the therapeutic dose is usually somewhere at 200 mg/day and on up, some women here i know are taking 600 mg/day for recurrant m/cs with low progesterone. midwives can prescibe hormones (i think everywhere, maybe it varies by location though, but i think everywhere) so if you can get in with a midwife now, i would try to do that and talk about this with her.

you probably know this too, but do be sure you have o'd before you do take it- that's why most say start 3 dpo so if you are charting you will know by then. otherwise, you may not o.

good luck!

Thanks for your input! Yeah, I was going to wait a day or 2 to make sure I've o'ed before starting it. I've charted for around 5 years but am not temping now - but I know my signals well enough to know when I've ovulated with cervical changes/mucous/o pain - I was going to wait until I was sure that way.

That is good to know midwifes can prescribe hormones - I will be checking around here and try to get in with one now. I was taking 100mg of B6 a day before when I got pregnant - not sure if that was what did it or not, but figured it couldn't hurt what with the nursing still.

As far as the losses due to progesterone - I am fairly certain my first loss was due to LPD, my second was more than likely chromosomal ( baby passed at 8w5d and I had been weaned off the progesterone for about 2 weeks at that point). My LP after the first m/c was crappy (8-9 days) but it lengthened out to around 12 days - it just took 6 months to do so. It also might have been because DD was almost EBF until 11mo - she started eating more around 12mo. so I'm not surprised my LP stunk then.

My LP last cycle was more than likely short because it was the first ovulation about 17 days after the latest m/c - just not sure if it's going to be normal this cycle or have to work up to being normal again like it did last time. That's why I thought maybe slightly supplementing it with the progesterone would help give it the boost, but that is a good point about needing more than that.

Ugh - I wish I could just get pregnant and actually stay pregnant, you know?
