What did you do with your placenta?

Hello! It´s my official due day today with my second child- & I am thinking & feeling my way through the last period of pregnancy! We have planned a homebirth & I am just wondering what others have done with their placenta?
I didn´t even see my placenta at my first birth & this time I am thinking to bury it somewhere special.

We planted a tree over it. I just noticed buds on the tree yesterday, so that makes me happy (it was in our freezer for over a year, then DH threw the entire thing, plastic bag and all, into the hole and plopped the tree over it, so I was worried the tree wouldn't survive). Not the lovely ceremony I was hoping for, but our fridge died and we didn't have time to fret about it.

I plan on using it for placenta encapsulation.

I might not be the best one to answer this question. One got lost in a move (really!) and the other one is still in my freezer. I hope to plant a tree once all this snow melts.

I buried it and planted a bush over it. I think it is a dahlia or some kind of flowering bush like that. Last summer, there was kind of pathetic growth. I think the dog sat on it. I am optimistic for more this year!! We have it kind of protected with some bricks, so crossing my fingers!!

I dried mine and encapsulated it. Hoping it wards off PPD.

I stuck it in my freezer, thinking I would plant a tree over it or something. It's still there two and a half years later. It's really annoying, it gets in the way of the compost bucket. I wish I had let the midwife take it away, since now it's, like, too meaningful to throw away without feeling guilty. I think I may just throw it away anyway.

I will be encapsulating mine.

I blended mine with V8 juice and drank it.

Encapsulating mine

I think I'm going with the smoothie after I get to poke it a few times. (I'm a weirdo, I love messing with meat.)

few pieces in smoothies and then encapsulated it

Cut, froze and used it for smoothies.

In the freezer still 3 years later... Dh and I can't agree on what to plant above it!

Still sitting in the freezer two years later, waiting for an appropriate spot to plant it. I save it for encapsulation, if necessary for PPD, but didn't need it.

Those who did smoothies... How did you do that? I'm torn between encapsulating (expensive) or just consuming it raw via smoothie or something.

I plan to have my MW or doula cut off several chunks and make a protien smoothie after the birth (I've had PPD twice but with 2 hospital births that were depressing and not at all envisioned) but how would I go about consuming the rest of it?

Sorry to hijack!!

Does everyone that has a homebirth keep the placenta?

I think my midwife says if her clients don't want to keep theirs she asks permission to take it and bury it on her farm.
