Have you heard of the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto? One of the best children's hospitals in the world? They will take my teen dd's consent or lack thereof OVER MY CONSENT OR REFUSAL. Legally. With no threat of a lawsuit. The teen's decision is the one that matters.
She was 14.5 when this happened. Admittedly, it was just for a DNA blood test, but I did ask, and yes, her consent/refusal over mine for pretty much anything there. She is not emancipated. |
I wonder if this would only be for something that the medical team agreed with though. For example, wasn't there a case recently about a boy who had cancer or some kind of disease, and he was a teenager, and he wanted to refuse treatments, and his parents supported and agreed with him in this case though, and the medical people would not allow it and were going to force him to go through the treatment. So, as a teen, he was not able to make his own decisions. Now, an adult on the other hand, over 18, could have done that in a case like that.

I am not sure what exactly triggered the vax thing with ds, I do know that we speak up about vax's a lot in this house, my dd had some horrible things happen because of vaxing.
Yes the year thing is a good idea, I never planned to leap into it and vax him the same day as his request, when he decides to ask. |
I like the idea of having him research each disease and each vaccine, and then give him a waiting period, and not rushing to make any decisions. That would be hard.
