Nervous system of multiples stressed??

My trips had their first appointment w/ a developmental pedi today, standard for their NICU discharge. I loved, loved the practice and the MD and NP. While the NP was evaluating DD, she commented that their "nervous systems seemed to be right on target, usually multiples' nervous systems develop slower due to being under stress." I asked her to repeat that and she did and I asked why and she answered that it has been shown in the research that the nervous systems of multiples is more "stressed" and therefore develops slower. . . . anyone heard this or know anything about this.

I've never heard of this, but I am glad that your little ones are doing so well.

Huh, no, never heard that. In fact, I've heard the opposite. That babies can potentially develop FASTER because of the additional stress inutero. I think people just make stuff up sometimes.

I have read research (of multiples in utero) that says the exact opposite. I am aware of other delays that more commonly affect twins, but not that one!

That is what my perinatologist told us, too.
