what am I forgetting in my hospital bag?

I pretty much have a bag packed, and there's a bit of room left. I feel like I must be forgetting something. What essential thing do you/will you have in your hospital bag?

lip balm of some kind.

A decent-sized soft towel (those hospital towels SUCK).

Clothes for baby (not just going home clothes)...comfy sleepers to use in place of the hospital-supplied baby garb. Your own baby blankets, too, so they don't have to be exposed to the laundry chemicals and bleach on the hospital blankets.

Organic instant oatmeal SAVED me in the hospital. I was there for three days (normal in Germany following vaginal birth) and it was the best snack ever and so easy bc hot water was always available.

Yes, along those lines...covert labor snacks (apple, almonds, something like that) and some high-quality snacks for post-labor (good juices, dried fruits and nuts, or whatever you like). I don't know about you, but I'm not used to the stuff they serve at hospitals...constipation city!

What about labor supplies? I brought along a tennis ball and a microwaveable rice back warmer in case of back labor, plus some lotion/massage oil. This time I'd like to bring along some essential oils for relaxation (lavender) or energy (citrus). For dh, we packed some granola bars in case labor was long.

Um....

A hair brush?
Deo?
belly binder?
lotion, shampoo, conditioner?
your own pillow?

Extra socks that can just be thrown away and/or slippers.

Hospital floors are NASTY!!!!!

Hair ties, my own comfy pj's, toothbrush, shampoo & conditioner, lotion, sleepers and blankets for baby, chargers/batteries for camera/video camera/cell phone. Congrats!!

I overpacked last time, so this time some must haves are:
-snack food (we live 10 min from hospital and my IL's are right down the road, so they are good about bringing us real food)
-rice bag and ball for labor
-my own socks and slippers
-2 pairs of comfy black pajama pants (I am a bleeder so black is good) and some black tanks/loose sports bras. I just feel better in black after a baby, lol
-a couple extra sleepers/hats/blankets for baby
-a couple extra pillows (we keep these in the car and send DH out after baby to get em for comfort in relaxing)

Check with your hospital before bringing/using essential oils. It's a big no-no here in scent free Canadian provinces (maybe all of them?)

Awesome, thanks so much for the suggestions!! I can totally see oatmeal being the perfect postpartum snack (toasted white bread with jelly didn't really do it for me last time).

Totally bring a few pairs of socks for yourself. The floors are gross.

Lots of snacks.

Those no-water face wipes that moisturize.

The soap you're comfortable having used on the baby.

Hair ties if you have long hair.

frivolous, but I was looking at ds' newborn pics last night, and I thought to myself if I was having another hospital birth I would pack 1 "cute" receiving blanket, because they used his in the picture, and hair stuff! I felt so gross after giving birth and just wanted to do my hair and feel human!
