I asked for it...

Thread Starter
I gained 40 pounds while I was pregnant and I was afraid I would never lose it. Afraid I would gain a few pounds each time I had a baby. So, I told DH to tell me if I was getting fat or I needed to keep losing weight, and...he did! Last night, when I was getting out of the shower, he says, "You need to go biking more." DD is 9 months now, and maybe he thought it was the right time to be straight with me but, ouch! I know I asked for it, but it hurts. Especially because I own a scale, and I know that I have a 3-5 pounds to go. On the other hand, I think I will go biking today with DD in tow.

Anyone else have a hurtful/helpful/"I asked for it story"?

DH and I keep each other in check in the same way. I don't typically get offended because he has my health in mind and it's something I know anyway (but try to pretend isn't there!). I'd much rather DH tell me I shouldn't wear a particular outfit than have others look at me and think "who is she trying to kid?!"

I wish my dh would be like that. I know he would over a dangerous amount of weight but iM carrying an extra 6-10 right in my stomach since having dc and he'll see me struggle trying to do up my pants when I complain he says "who cares, its just a little fat" I think "I WANT you to care" But he truly doesn't care..that's just my dh

My aunt on the other hand...we were at an all you can eat restaurant and when I said I was going to get dessert she "kindly" reminded me to get a small plate and only bite sized things...then she split everything on my plate with me..so my 3 1 bite desserts were cut in half..gotta say it helped

Well-

I asked for the same exact thing you did, but never got it and I didn't (partly couldn't due to a health issue) do anything about it until 55Lbs later...

I think you're lucky, and he did put it in a very nice way too.

Just had one of those moments!

I was getting ready in a hurry for a weekend away, and TMI WARNING! was bending over naked to reach for something. DH walked in the room and said "Oh!" and quickly left. I thought it was, "Oh!" in a good way since I've been on a diet and lost some weight recently. Turned out it was an "Oh!" in a not so attractive way. Bad skin. I was mortified.

But I guess I'd rather know and do something to correct it.

But mortifying!

Once my DH said to me, "I bet that if you didn't watch it, you could get a weight problem." At the time he told me, I actually did have a burgeoning weight problem. I took it as a hint, intended or not. That was YEARS ago, and I still remember it, so it is very interesting how things stick in the mind. I think your DH was pretty tactful, but it caught you off guard.

DD was 8 or 9 months. I pulled on a pair of Pre-preg shorts. I was able to zip and button them and was rather pleased.
I said, "Look! I can get my size 8 shorts on! But I still feel like a cow."
DH's deadpan response: "Well, I've always liked cows."
He ducked to avoid the shoe that came flying across the room.

Years ago, my sister casually mentioned that she had gained a few pounds and felt fat. Her boyfriend replied "It's OK, I like fat chicks." completely seriously.

To this day Mr. Clueless probably has no idea why she got so upset.

Once, many years ago, I was walking ahead of DH and he called out, "Hey honey, you want some fries with that shake!"

I had been showing DH some pics of the kids and he pointed to one and said "Is that you?" which it wasn't but the fact that I resembled them really got to me. And my ds asked if that was another Andraea about a woman in her 50's, thankfully I was 8 months pregnant when both these questions popped but yeah it was a shock. Now I have no baby in my belly to blame the weight on. I wish I only had 5-10 lbs to lose.

That seriously just made me laugh out loud...That sounds like something my dp would say.
