dermatofibroma - anyone ever had one of these?

I went to the dermatologist yesterday to get one excised. It was about the size of a pea, on the outside of one of my knees. Every now and then it would cause pain and discomfort. I would have left it, if it wasn't for the annoying pain.

The dermatologist warned me that it would leave a cosmetically unacceptable depression. Whatever.

But tell me, do these things grow back, even if you excise them?

I had one deep in my back next to my shoulder blade - had it removed in 2004. Yes, there is a depression and a wide scar where the stitches pulled apart. But there is absolutely no indication that it is growing back. When it was removed it was pretty well encapsulated.

I've never heard of one growing back.
