HandFootMouth question

Hi!

My DD1 had HFM about 6 mos ago.. it was mainly on her feet/calves, hands, & diaper area. Blistery bumps formed and it took about 1 week to go away.

I believe she just got it again, but this time it is different. It's mainly on her feet, hands, & mouth (in and around). The bumps have not blistered yet and this morning she has a very faint rash basically all over her whole body (legs, butt, back, arms).

I put in call to pedi and waiting for a call back.

What was your LOs rash/bumps like with HFM? I've pretty much ruled out Chixpox bc there is no blistering. I don't think it's roseala bc she never had a high fever and it doesn't quite fit the pics I've seen.

Any help or input would be great! Thanks girls!

HI quick - naps are almost over we had HFM back in Dec. Horrors - I blieve the mouth/throat(?) sores were the most painful for my little guy. Fever preceded the bumps, which we didn't see until we were at the doctor. Then about a month ago he had another rash, and ran a low grade fever. I'm not certain, but I think it was another strain of coxsackie (HFM). It cleared quickly, and we did use ibuprofen for the fever (we did that the first time, too, and it seemed to help w/ the pain from the mouth sores). Hope your LO feels better soon. My main pont is that there are several strains, I believe, of the coxsackie virus, so I think you can get one, then another. DD never showed any symptoms, thankfully.

oh, sorry - our original dx'd HFM was blister-like, pus filled blisters. The second time (which was never seen by a doc but I suspect was also coxsackie) was a much finer rash, and more on his groin and torso.

Great! Thank you for your reply... Your experience sounds so much like ours. Part of me wants to find out exactly what it is by pedi, but she's acting pretty much fine today and no fever so I think I will just let it run it's course at this point. My gosh, it sure is an yucky illness! Now, if I can just keep my 6 mo old from getting it! I may try and post pics later if I can figure it out Thanks!
