anyone have to take pain meds when pg?

I was given pain meds; vicodin by a dentist for my teeth and the awful pain I am having. I have been struggling with tooth aches for 4-5 weeks now.
I have had to take some. What I have been doing as I am barely functioning with all the pain, is I cut the pill in half and then the half into half and take a 1/4 of the pill..just enough to take away the pain or the edge off so I can function.

I did read and research and the dentist knows I am pg..
As far as what I found out from researching is it has to be taken for a long period to cause any withdrawals.
I am only taking it when tylenol doesn't help..so not all the time.

I wish I didn't have to take it at all..Sad and am sad about it as I am not a pill popper. Sad
Just wondering if anyone has had to take pain meds for pain during pg??
I am in my 37th week.

I'm 25 weeks pregnant with my first, and am on some very, very heavy pain medication. My baby will probably have to be treated for withdrawls. Very sad, but it was unavoidable once I got pregnant. Long story- PM me if you want to know the details.

Anyhow....just wanted to answer your question and let you know that the amount of pain/opiate medication you're taking will NOT negatively effect your baby. The only real side effect for babies is dependence, and you would have to be taking several, several times that amount for an extended period of time to be dependant. Especially with the way you're splitting them up and only taking a quarter or a half, etc.

Take my word on this from someone who knows, and don't be sad.

I had a wisdom tooth removed and was given lortabs. I took them eagerly. I was in so much pain I thought I might actually die. The hygenist called it "a brutal extraction" I only needed 3 I took one the afternoon of the extraction, one that night before bed and one the next morning. In hindsight I probably could have lived without the one the next morning. I was still sore, but I think I recovered quicker with the meds than I would have without them.

vicodin for a broken bone (36 weeks), morphine for chest pain (17 weeks), codeine a few times for pain and cough. as pp poster said unless you are taking a lot and frequently which may cause withdrawal in the neonate, taking painkillers is not going to hurt your baby.
