9 weeks , first pregnancy, paranoid about everything!

I'm new here! After trying for 2 years to get pregnant, I'm finally 9 weeks along today after fertility treatments. Now that I'm pregnant, I can't help but freak out about everything little thing that could go wrong. For example, I have cats, so I worry about toxoplasmosis. The other night I ate some soft mozzarella-type cheese at a restaurant and I didn't ask if it was pasteurized. And then a house guest broke a CFL bulb in my house, and now I'm worried about exposing the baby to mercury vapor! I wasn't there when it broke, but I don't think it was cleaned up properly and right away, so I'm just imagining the worst!

I see my OB tomorrow, and plan to ask her about getting tested for things like toxoplasmosis and maybe even mercury, but I wanted to ask for advice on how to deal with all these potential dangers. I don't know how I'm going to make it all the way to Nov 15 without having an anxiety attack every week!

Would it help if I told you all of the "rules" I broke while pregnant? AND DS turned out fine and was ahead of the game in all things physical? I can totally make a list!

I don't worry about any of those things. I'm a really relaxed pregnant person and in general an "everything in moderation" kind of gal.o Women can be starving drug addicts and still turn out perfectly healthy babies. All you're doing is stressing yourself out.

If you are in the U.S all cheese has to be pasteurized. If your cat is an indoor cat it's fine, even if it wasn't it's likely you've been exposed and are now immune to toxo. Either way you can test for it.

Don't worry about the bulb, the amount of mercury is tiny. Air the room out for a bit and it'll be fine.

Your best weapon against paranoia is to just relax and then do some research.

I can tell you I had no fertility probs and I am STILL at 32 weeks quite paranoid about most every little thing... I hear it's a pretty normal reaction to being pregnant

You're likely already immune to toxoplasmosis and you have to work REALLY hard to find unpasteurized cheese.

Thanks everybody for your comments!

I'm still worried about the CFL bulb, but I'm going to have my husband do a thorough cleaning of the floor where it broke and throw out anything that may have come into contact with the bulb. I've also closed off the room and opened a window in there to help ventilate.
