when to give solids

Hi mamas,

I have a 4 months old DD. I've been off dairy, soy, wheat, nuts and eggs since she was about 5 weeks old because by then she had horrible painful gas, ezcema on her face and head, throwing up alot, and the runs. I went off it all (also gluten) and after a month, began adding thing back in one by one. I was less systematic about it because well, I take care of her full time and work like 30 hour a week from home since she was 6 weeks old. So it's been tough and i am really really tired. Plus we had thrush and I've been fighting plugged ducts.

I rotated soy, wheat nuts and eggs through and we had some bad reactions. Corn seemed alright. But I didn't always have a ton of these things and only once. I don't eat much corn anyway. I stopped there because all the bad reactions were making it really tough to get my work done. In the last week I realized the reasion we've never gotten to a baseline is because she does in fact have a problem with corn and also, I know realize, with sesame. I hope to reach a baseline now that I've cut those things out too.

Anyway, I was thinking of trying the rotation again when she's 6 months old, eating large amounts.

But as she approaches 6 months, I am trying to educate myself about solids and how and when to introduce them to her. Any advice? Thoughts? Should I do the rotation on myself again? It's really hard on me with work so if I shouldn't, I'd rather not do it.

If your little ones reacted to mutiple allergens like this, when and how did you introduce solids?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

For one, I'd wait until she's 6 months before giving solids. And truly, keep with the one food at a time for a while, to gauge reactions. Remember that she can react directly to foods, even if she didn't react through you (my DS reacted to milk through me, but was okay with soy, until he started solids, then started reacting). So keep a food journal. And I'd give a good 5 days between new foods to check for reactions. And log all types of symptoms including sleep, poop, pee habits.

This may not be what you want to hear (at least, for me, as I was sooo looking forward to start solids), but you can wait to introduce solids way past 6 months. I used to think that 6 months is late, but now my son is 7.5 months growing very well, and he has had very few solids so far. Every other day, I let him try something that I think is safe. He has not had a ``meal" yet from solids and I think that will probably not happen for at least another couple of months. I let him chew on raw carrots since his teeth are coming in and he likes that, and sometimes I mash some cooked vegetable or meat for him. I try to avoid starches and grains, but I did let him have a taste a couple of times as he was watching me so intently while I was eating them ...
