What to eliminate?

So DD2, now 3 weeks old, has been having slimy poop for the last 8 to 10 days. She might have a tiny bit of an allergy ring, but it's so light I really can't even tell if she does or if that's just a normal baby-who-poops-5-times-a-day thing. No other symptoms - no fussiness, nurses well but not constantly, doesn't seem to be spitting up an abnormal amount and the stools are still a yellow color, not green (except when I was dealing with a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance, which we've mostly worked out).

DD1 had projectile type reflux due to dairy and soy intolerance. She also had some other intolerances, but no matter what I ever did, she regularly had slimy stools until she started solids, at which point they became completely normal, once or twice daily, brown stools. Her ped at the time said not to worry about it, since she was gaining well (was big, actually) and seemed perfectly happy and normal. She said some babies will always have a bit of mucus in the stool until they start solids, which then slows down the digestive time and solves the problem. I've never heard anyone else say that, except for one reference to it online, but it did work out that way for DD1, so I don't know. Can it possibly be true?

So back to DD2. I've been off dairy forever now, other than the rare bit of cheese or butter during pregnancy. I'm been off soy except for lecithin and oil, but will quit those too. What else should I give up? Should I focus on the things that are problems for DH and DD1 or should I focus on the top allergens? DH can't tolerate peanuts, garlic, or onions and DD can't tolerate dairy and sunflower seed products of all things. When she was a baby she also couldn't tolerate carrots, soy or corn. So I have a list of things here and several of the top allergens aren't on there. What should be my focus? This is so incredibly frustrating. I had hoped it would be easier this time around.

I feel that when you don't have any clues, it is a good idea to eliminate the top 4 - corn, dairy, gluten and soy. As you already know, make sure that even the tiniest amounts are not getting in.

good luck

congrats on your babe.

Thanks!.

So you wouldn't worry about eliminating things family members have reacted to? I wouldn't have thought to, but then I read in two different places today that that's what I should focus on.

I'd agree on the top 4 - we have lots of people around here with 2-3 kids that all react to different things.

I've read on this board that you inherit the tendency to have allergies, and not the specific allergies themselves.
I'd do the top 4 or top 8, myself.

You do only inherit the tendency to have allergies, rather than the specific allergies themselves, but apparently there has been at least one study showing that family members are more likely to be allergic to the same things than different things. We're dealing with intolerances rather than allergies, so I don't know if it's the same or not.
