Number of Posts

I have always wondered why each poster has the number of posts they have written on their posts. Is this to encourage people to write more?
I have always been curious about that. I love MDC but I never have time to write lots as you can see. It may be silly to ask but is it important if a MDC member has lots of posts or not?

We are always happy to have people write more and people do like having their post counts visable.

We can remove the visable post counts but I think people usually like them.
