MISERABLE 5 year old-- neither Claritin nor Zyrtec touch his seasonal allergies!

This is the third Spring that ds has had a severe pollen allergy. When he was 3, I tried different natural remedies (don't remember what, at this point). No help. He was basically curled up and screaming, clawing at his eyes and choking on snot. I started giving him Claritin. It didn't make much of a dent, but allowed him to be merely miserable, instead of non-functional. Last Spring was unpleasant, but this year is much worse! The Claritin seems useless, and the Zyrtec he started last week isn't any better.

Today he added constant coughing to the itchy eyes and blocked nose. He wakes over and over, all night. Neither of us can sleep!

I've cut almost all dairy and refined grains from his diet, too. What else can I do for my little guy (before I lose my mind)?

Try getting a sublingual methyl b12 (I like the Jarrow ones, even several a day is safe), and giving him 1-2g vitamin C a day - both help manage histamines, and might help take the edge off.

i agree with the above. my 5yo also has severe pollen allergies and was miserable last year. she had to take zyrtec even to functional at all and then still had trouble sleeping and dark circles under her eyes and extreme morning sneezing. she has been on the methyl b12 (and folinic acid) and vit c since jan this year. this week the pollen has really exploded around here and she is barely sneezing at all. i have not even thought about digging out the zyrtec for her.

Wow. I wish Caleb was responding like that to the methyls and vitamin C.
We're in the same boat OP. I'm going to try Singlulair as much as I hate the thought. I hope the above works for your son though as I wish it was helping mine. I tried Alergol too and that might be worth trying.
