Hey Out there mommas

My hubby and I decided to keep baby no. 3 gender a surprise. but when I got my ultrasound my ob looked at the gender, she did seem a bit rushed because she was running a couple hours late from a delivery, and she had her thick glasses on, she is a brilliant doctor but she told me she's been wron a few times.
any hoo I am a bit tempted to call and find out. any one out there had any gender predictions gone wrong????

Thanks!

My understanding is that they can not get a boy's gender wrong. But it is possible with a girl.
However it depends on the sonografer, their experience and the equipment they use.

A co-worker of my husband's was told they were having a boy.....but was a girl, so we got all sorts of outfits for our baby (a boy) from them. I think it happens less likely (thought a boy, but a girl), but it does happen. Even if I was the sort to find out I would always leave that sliver of mistake as a possiblity in my head!

They think maybe the tech say part of the cord or something.

I have heard of plenty of boy guesses wrong too. They mistake the cord for a penis. I heard it happening to a set of identical twin girls. Both girls were said to have been boys.

It can be wrong for either. For starters, you don't always even get a clear shot. You can think it's a boy and have it come out a girl (think the cord or something is the penis), and you can assume it's a girl and have it come out a boy (didn't see anything that looked like a penis). Of course we're assuming binary sexes only here.

For DD, we got a very clear shot of her vulva and were quite confident she was a girl. (Three lines).

For myself, granted this was the 1970's, they thought I was a boy from the U/S but I'm female.

I had them put it in a envelope because I wanted it to be a suprise but if I caved I wanted to be able to find out (with my first DD they told me they don't write down the gender so if I were to call I would be outta luck. )

After the first week or so the urge to peek went away and the excitement about finding out at the birth grew. On the day she was born we had my SIL unseal the envelope and the us was right.

It was so worth not finding out!

I've known 3 people that were told the wrong gender, a boy and 2 girls.
It can definitely happen.

The sonografer who did ours said she was very sure & she was right (boy.)

I don't personally know anyone who was told wrong, but I've heard of it happening.

I was dying to know. Waiting until 20W along was a long wait!

I really don't get the appeal of waiting until birth. It's still a "surprise" to find out at a US. Plus, we didn't get too focused on picking out names until we knew the gender.

At 18 wks the OB did a quick office ultrasound for gest. age etc. Said it was a boy. We transferred to a midwife and never went back for the full scan with the sonographer. Luckily we didn't buy a lot of gender specific stuff, because we had a girl!!

I've had two and been told in advance. The first one was a genetic test. The second by u/s. Personally, my confidence depends upon what I SEE. What the sonographer showed ME. You'll know the degree of confidence when you see vulva/penis and it is obvious. You know what i mean? Less of a guess....b/c sometimes it is a better view than others.
