OP here, I wanted to give a quick update: we went to the urologist to check on ds's undescended testicle and before the exam began I said "my son has an intact foreskin. I want to make sure that his foreskin is not pulled back or retracted in any way." The dr. said "don't worry--I won't touch it." He went on to explain that he, as a urologist, was trained not to pull back/retract the foreskin until it does on its own. he said that most peds didn't understand this and that many had outdated info...so all of this made me feel comfortable with him. He did do the little peek into the tip (not pulling any skin back), said everything looked fine, so I feel better. I am still unhappy with our family doctor, but I will make a point at the next appt. (before the diaper comes off) to say "Please don't pull back his foreskin!!!!"
It's interesting that this came up--I have a good friend who is due any day with baby #1, a boy, and I told her about this. She is not planning to circ her son, but she had the info completely backwards, thought she had to retract and "clean him"
so, sharing this story gave me the opportunity to set her straight.
