Probiotic for newborn??

Thread Starter
My dd2 is 7 weeks old. She's exclusively breast fed and on Zantac and a 10 day dose of Omnicef. She has a cyst in her neck right now that is very painful and so she's on Tylenol every 4 hours until either the antibiotics stop the pain or its surgically removed. (we see a surgeon tomorrow)

I'm really interested in probiotics for her since I've been having to pump her full of all this other crap for the last week. I don't really know much about probiotics. Should I take one and therefore pass it on to her via milk? Should she be on one herself? Which one and what dose should I use? Where can I get it? She's 11.6 lbs...

For an infant you want bifidus strains:

Natren Life Start

Solaray Babylife

Kirkman Labs Bifido Complex

I would give these directly. They are all available online, Solaray or Natren may be available at HFS, Whole Foods, etc.

I agree, give them directly

Get one formulated for infants. We use Infant Therbiotic from Klaire labs and we double to reccomended dose. You cannot overdose on probiotics and for gut/yeast issues (which she most likely will have after 10 days on abx), you will need a higher dose.

Oh yes, Klaire is GREAT, too!

I've heard that breast milk has a natural probiotic in it...called Reuteri I think. I don't know much about this, but I think it's found in breast milk, and you can buy it as a probiotic in the refrigerated section of healthfood stores.
