The 'witching hour' - how are you getting through it? White noise recs?

If you're experiencing this with your NB, how are you getting through it? DS#2's witching hour starts up around 7pm each night and last for about 30 to 45 minutes. He's swaddled, held really close to myself or DH, walked around the room, patted on his bottom in a rhythmatic fashion, sung to, has his paci, and once he dozes off a bit, he's laid down. We turn on a small fan that has a small humming noise to it, but doesn't seem to help much.

So, does anyone have any great white noise recommendations that have worked for you?! TIA!!!!
Btw, DS#1 did not have this at all, so this is all new territory for us - I fell a new parent again!!

We used the vacuum cleaner. Swaddle, lots of quick bouncy movements, something to suck on, and a few minutes of vacuum cleaner.

The only thing that worked for us was to go in the bathroom, turn on the shower and the fan, and just stand and rock DD. The shower alone was an almost instant cure every time!

Even though she's past her colicky stage we still do this when she gets upset about something or is overtired and cranky and can't go to sleep.

We got a white noise CD - I think it was from a baby store, called "Baby's First White Noise CD" or some such thing - real cheap looking. Anyway, it has a one hour long white noise track. We put that onto an old iPod, connected the iPod to a clock radio in DS's room, and put the track on repeat. Voila, white noise all night!

The best white noise at our house in the over-head fan on the stove. It's loud and easy to turn off and on. I used it for several months while my DD was a newborn.

We use a cool mist humidifier. It is a cheapy store brand and it makes a lot of noise.

We downloaded the white noise with heartbeat and just dock my iPod on the alarm clock in the bedroom during naptime. I swaddle dd and put her in a swing in the bedroom with the white noise going.

i can tell you what doesn't work.
dinner with your dh's higher-up.
who'd think that would turn out well, not me, but people - that had infants several decades ago and probably didn't do that much of the childcare- thought it would.

We give our son a bath. When he gets fussy around 5 we go up stairs and give him a nice warm bath! It's a nightly tradition now that started around 2 or 3 weeks. It's a life saver! When he was really young I'd get in the bath with him and lay him on my chest.

After one night with the vaccuum on, DH recorded it on the computer and then burned the 45 minute vaccuum noise onto a CD. We used this for months. The benefit of the CD is that you can turn it louder or softer depending on need. It usually worked like a charm.

Then around 8/9 months it had the opposite effect and we haven't used it since.

We do have a white noise machine that has a sound of a babbling brook. We use that every night mostly to help disguise noises during the night and our squeaky floor boards when we walk through the house.

money's tight here so we use AM 610. All the best static, all the time. It's programmed into our radios at home, in the car, and at my mom's!

Ugh, we've got one of those, too - it's a Walgreens brand. VERY loud. Maybe I'll give that a try!!

Ha! Our is Walgreens as well (kind of happy DH cheaped out now ). Just make sure you use distilled water. We didn't at first and a light film began to cover everything.

We have a space heater that has a fan setting (no heat) that runs pretty loud. I usually have that going with a lullaby cd.

Try a glass of wine or two. Won't fix the problem, but it will take the edge off.
