Oldschool house vs virtual schools vs sonlight

So I really need help trying to figure out where to go with my son. He is in 6th grade right now. I took him out of school in March and the school gave us all his books on loan, but I am not using them. I have been pulling things together every day, but I feel as though i have no plan and we are missing something important. My son is the kind of learner that needs to have things repeated many times before he gets it.
I am having him do ALEX online math. I like it because he gets to pick what he wants to learn each day and they review every day, before he can learn anything else. It is online and does tell me what he learned every day, and what he has mastered, but it is not connected to a person that is taking over all control and telling me we can't take a day off.

So has anyone ever done Old schoolhouse. I thought it was an online thing, but it turns out you order it and it comes on disks. How good is it?

So then there are Virtual schools like K12 and I thought they were like the Alex, but it sounds like they have a lot of testing and don't allow you to move on, till you have scored high enough. Tell me what you like or dislike about these schools. Can I order just a couple subjects?

So then there is Sonlight. Not on the computer, but I think it is all planned out for you. Many people say they love it. Why? Why not?

I need to have subjects like English, and science planned out for the year. I feel like I have no plan and are just pulling anything and everything together. I homeschool my 1st grader as well, have a 4 y/o at home and babysit other kids. A lot is going on and i just need to know that my 6th grader is not missing something BIG.

I actually am more an unschooler, but that said, we love Sonlight. I have a lot of friends from various faiths, and various modes of learning that have used it in varying degrees as well.

I like it because it's all based on real books, with very little "textbook" involved. I like it because it's organic, and all ties in together. So when the kids read one of the nooks on the booklist, they say "hey! I know that guy, we read about him in our history book" and it means more to them.
We aren't actually using any curric right now, but out of your options, (and I have looked into K12-shudder) I would recommend Sonlight in a heartbeat.
