We are thinking of move to Oregon and so i am wondering what homeschooling is like there? Is it more difficult then NY, about the same? Is there anything I should know before we decide to move?

If you don't get responses here, you can try asking in the Finding Your Tribe section for Oregon

I homeschool in OR, but I don't know anything about hs in NY so I'm not very helpful. I think it's very easy here, & there is an enormous hs community here by Portland. All we had to do was send a letter to our school district letting them know we're homeschoolers. My kids have to test in 3rd, 5th, 8th & 10th grades. We've always found the tests to be easy. And that's it. Those are the only 2 things we have to do for the state. Register, and test now & then. (And there are plenty of folks who don't even bother with either)

I'm also moving to Oregon, and this site really helped me with the homeschooling stuff:

We're homeschooling in Oregon and it's just as zjande said. I'd also add that most people where I am don't seem to even blink an eye when they hear that you homeschool, it's quite tolerant.

Oh, there's a list of "approved testers", you pay for and arrange for the testing yourself.
