Speech development Question?

At what age (more or less) do toddlers start making 2-3 word sentences? My Ds will say a few 2 word phrases like "I do" and "Hi mama" together but thats about it. Yesterday I tried to get him to say more and I was able to get him to say "I see you" and "Gonna get you" but thats about it for the 2-3 word phrases/sentences. when can I expect more? He still cant say "I love you". He actually cant even say the word "love". I think he still hasnt mastered the "L" sound. Any experience from mamas that have btdt?

It's normal to start that around age 2.

And the initial "L" sound is difficult.

My DD was a late talker -- she started to use two-word phrases occasionally at 25 months, then it really took of at 26 months. Now (28 months), she's truly off and running -- she can say pretty much whatever words she wants to and speaks mostly in phrases/sentences (3-7 words).

I think some kids are using phrases at more like 1 year or soon afterwards. But our pediatrician said there's more variation in speech development than any other "milestone," and said he wasn't concerned because her "receptive language" (understanding) was so good. We actually met with an Early Intevention coordinator who said the same thing when DD was 24 months.

All I can say is, thank goodness for sign language! It was the lifesaver of our communication with her.

Thanks everyone. I should mention that ds just turned 2 this month (i figured you could tell by my siggy ) but I guess it should be pretty soon then.

the phrases he's already doing count as a "yes" in the "using 2-3 word phrases" criteria. So it sounds like he's right on track.
