35.5 weeks pregnant and exposed to strep throat

My dh was just diagnoised with strep throat. I am freaking out out it. I seem to get strep easily and I am afraid I will get it for sure. We are pretty affectionate and I know was really exposed. What should I do to prevent it? My biggest concern is that my ds came a little over three weeks early and I can't help but think I could have a newborn in a week and have strep. What to do?

try not to freak out. i had something similar happen when i was 37 weeks with DS, my DD had a hoooorrrible cough and i was sure i would get it and i didn't ..

at least with strep, you get it, you take the antibiotics (not ideal i know) and it goes away.. if you stay on top of it, it can be gone faster than a cold..

i'm sure others will have better advice for prevention.. maybe raw garlic?

If you are worried to the extent that you feel that preventative antibiotics are worth the potential benefit, then I would talk to your health care provider about that. If you are very prone to it and the risk is very real to you having strep at the time of the baby arriving, then you might consider that option. I personally don't see that as much different than propholactic antibiotics for GBS+.

You also might consider getting something like Cepacol mouthwash and gargling at night to reduce risk if that would help (I'm not sure if it is only colonized in the throat?).
