Two Month Getting Solids

Thread Starter
My three year old fed my two month old a bit of banana. She lied about it after banana came out with his spit up, so I don't know if this was the only time. I felt so dedicated to exclusive nursing for six months and then baby-led solids like I did with her. It's not that I left them alone; she did it while I was chnging him; I just didn't notice out of exhaustion. We've talked a million times about how babies only have milk. Is there any way to repair the damage?

i don't have any advice but wanted to offer you hugs. also, i may be super ignorant but if it was only a one time thing don't beat yourself up about it. although not ideal, it was only banana not chips or anything and the babe is probably fine. chalk it up to exhaustion and move on. your 3yo was prolly just experiementing and you did right by telling her babes only need milk.

awww, dont worry about it mama. when my older ds was about that age, i left him with my mom in the living room while i took a shower and when i came out she was feeding him the teeniest slurps of wendy's frosty! and he loved it, he was laughing out loud. i was horrified and i did make her stop right away, but i dont feel he suffered from it. he went on to wean on his own at 24 mos.

Aw, mama, be gentle with yourself and your DD. I'm sure it did no lasting damage whatsoever! And your baby will probably ingest lots of other stuff before starting solids-- my older DS ate tons of paper from his board books before he ate any solids.

Don't stress out!! It's ok.

Exactly this. At 6 months we tried to intro solids and my son was content to eat dirt instead...

At that age babies have such a strong tongue thrust reflex, I doubt any actually got into his system. Nature invented that reflex as a guard against loving 3 yo sibs!

I've read that if an ebf infant eats some solids, it'll take about a day for their gut to return to normal. I read that two years ago, so I don't have the reference. But I wouldn't worry.

I would probably make time to have another little talk with the three year old about baby not being ready to eat food, gently of course, but otherwise-- don't worry about it. When DD1 was three and a half months old, she snatched a handful of spinach with a garlicky lemon sauce, and stuffed it in her mouth, and almost all of it came right back out of her mouth with her tongue-thrust. I only had to sweep out a few of the more stringy bits. (You should have seen her expression when she tasted it!!!) Chances are your LO actually swallowed very little, if any. Besides, banana is obviously not what a baby that age needs, but it's a mild, non-allergenic food, and even if she ate a quantity of it, it would probably do very little harm.
