child health plus in NY

Thread Starter
My DD just switched from medicaid to child health plus (in NY) and the lady called with a bunch of health questions. We have already been approved and received the insurance card. When she asked if DD's vax were up to date, I lied and said yes...but she has not had a single vax...it was a kneejerk reaction because I was unsure if DD would lose coverage if she was not vaxed.

Does anyone know if they can deny her coverage because she is not vaxed?

I hate lying. I feel like I should call back to correct it but only if she will not lose coverage. Another mom suggested that I answered the question correctly because she is up to date on the schedule WE'VE created for her (and our doctor is great and supports our decision).

Thanks!

I think private insurance companies can deny coverage for this reason, but medicaid programs and state/federal funded programs cannot.

Personally I wouldn't bother calling back. You DD is up to date on YOUR schedule.

My ds was switched from medicaid to child health plus a year ago. We never got a call like that. Weird. We haven't had many problems, but we really don't go to the docs either. My ds hasn't had any vaxes since 6 months...thankfully I am now better informed.

Is this true? (Not to hi-jack the thread, I've been wondering this & wondering if you had more info.)

We use Child Health Plus for the kids, don't vaccinate, and haven't had any problems with coverage.

Yes....it's true. There have been moms on here who have been denied coverage. If you get insurace through an employer with a private company, they can't deny you coverage, but if you are self-employed and just looking to purchase insurance from a private company, I guess they can. I was surpised as well, but it's happened to people here. Maybe one of them will chime in.
