Maybe a dumb question...but I'm new to this!

Okay, so I'm new to the cloth diapering thing, but I'm really excited about it! So far I only have a few pocket diapers, and I'm waiting for my prefolds and wraps to arrive in the mail.

I ordered some hemp/fleece doublers that arrived today. Now my question is: when I put the doubler in the diaper, does the hemp side or the fleece side touch the baby?? Does it matter?

1 more thing.. what do I need to do to prep these doublers, and the prefolds when they arrive, for use? I read somewhere that I can put them in boiling water for a bit instead of washing them a bunch of time prior to putting them on Babe for the first time?

the fleece is presumably to keep baby from feeling wet, so you can decide whether you want the fleece touching baby (so baby doesn't feel wet) or the hemp (so he will). I don't think it really matters... some ppl want baby to feel wet when he pees so he'll recognize the sensation, and some babies are sensitive to non natural fibers, so that could be another reason.

To prep hemp, I just washed mine on hot 5 or 6 times... I don't know if boiling a polyester fleece is ok, but if it's a cotton fleece you can probably boil it. you can boil the prefolds or just wash them a number of times, I think.

Are you sure that's not "hemp fleece"? I have several hemp fleece doublers. Fleece as in what your sweatpants are made of - smooth on one side, fuzzy on the other.

Hemp needs to be washed quite a few times to reach full absorbency, just like your PFs.

As for which side touches the baby, I tend to choose the softest. But, if they are indeed hemp/poly fleece, then their entire purpose is for the fleece to be against baby so he feels dry.

Hey, how did you know I'm wearing sweatpants?! You're right, it is hemp fleece. Thank you for the info! I'm excited to get more experienced with cloth diapers.
