Eleanor just smiled at me! Twice! She is only 2 weeks, 1 day. I can't believe it! What a sweet thing to see.

That is so sweet!! I see my little Eden smiling mostly in her sleep which I know is a normal developmental thing.. but when her daddy talks to her she smiles big and wide and she's totally awake! Melts my heart.

Nothing beats a baby's smile - makes up for all the sleepless nights!

sure does! i know they say that those first smiles are from gas or peeing or whatever, but I've decided that since i have to deal with all the sleepless nights, blow-out diapers, fussiness, etc. of the baby, I get to decide what constitutes a real smile. Part of the privilege of being the mom. Really, though she was so alert and happy, I really do think she was smiling at me.

I haven't had any awake smiles yet, but the sleep smiles sure are cute. He laughs in his sleep too and it just melts my heart

Yes, I think babies smile at 2 weeks, too. DD has been doing it at us when she's wide awake since last week, which was 2 weeks. Not much, but some. And sometimes you can just tell she's trying really hard to work one up, then she barely manages. Very cute.

I second that. When Ruben smiles at me I've decided to believe that it is for real.
Sometimes he full on laughs out loud in his sleep. I just don't see that being gas.

My oldest and this baby both laugh in their sleep.

My little guy has been smiling in the last week. he's 3 weeks. I'm *certain* it is a smile because his eyes smile with it. He even gets a little dimple. And it is usually in response to me making silly baby talk with him, particularly when I make a quiet whistle type sound or making "chirping" sounds with kissy lips LOL. It always gets him to smile, so I'm convinced he's really doing it. His eyes light up with it and he makes eye contact the whole time.

I know the books would say no, but I say yes!

Yeah, that's how I think you can tell it's not gas or whatever...they do it in response to something that would usually cause a baby to smile. Besides, since when is gas something to smile about? Neither of my babies have smiled when they were feeling gassy.

Bram makes a smile like face when he poops but it's clearly not a smile, if you say baby is smiling then it's true!
