Any way to get past tax info?

I need the last two year's worth of tax info and my W2s in order to file for divorce.

My STBX was abusive, so I left quickly and I had surgery before packing and moving, so I never in a million years thought to take that with me! Stupid, I know I only took my marriage certificate, my SS card and my birth certificate.

He is never going to check if he has them and give them to me, because that is how he is

There has got to be some way for me to get this information. What if someone had a house fire or flood damage, etc? They would have to have some way to get it. But I truly can't think of how?

Does anyone know?

And please don't tell me to hire a lawyer. I could just cry when I read that on here Every cent I earn is paying medical bills from the partial blindness. If I had any money leftover for a lawyer, I would get one. The only one who was in my price range dropped me because she knows my STBX somehow. So I am going to have to file on my own. I hope that didn't sound rude, it is just not helpful to see "Call a lawyer" all the time when I tried that and it isn't a financial possibilty for me at this time.

Did you guys file your taxes yourselves or did someone else do them?

Were you working? Are they your W2s or his that you need?

He did them himself, so I don't have an accountant to fall back on.

I am not sure, it is not clear from the papers if I just need mine or both. I read the booklet more than once and it is very confusing, but it does not clarify on the W2s :

Is it true that in Las Vegas people can just go through a drive through and get divorced? I think I heard that once. That must be nice! This is very complex! We don't own anything together, we have no debt together, it really should be simpler!

Well I have the house fire answer . If you have an IRS office nearby you go and ask, they can look them up and print them right out. I got 2 years worth that way so that I could have them for my files. They don't "look" like the forms you send in but it has all the info you need.

What a relief! I am so glad I have a way to get them. I will see if there is an IRS office near me. And I am sorry that you had to find out about it that way

Also, your employers will have copies of your W-2 forms.

You'll be amazed how nice the IRS can be when you are dealing with an ex who won't give you documentation. Just call them if you hit a wall.

They were very nice to me! Especially since I had no idea if I had the right SS # for STBX. I gave them a few variations and the man helping me was very patient with me when I explained things.

Glad you got them! I guess I'm spoiled that we have an office. It on the second floor of the main post office building, down the hall from the social security office. I know dh's ss# by heart but I don't think he even knows what mine starts with

I used to know his, but I forgot, and I forgot his phone number too! My memory is usually ridiculous, but I blame it on the stress.

We don't have an office. My coworker's DH is an accountant and he told me where there was an office, but it was in another town and I can't get any time off from work right now. I can wait, I have been waiting since August anyhow
