Hi there health enthusiasts,

I just had a bunch of lab work done and I just want to run my labs on this board because I know some of you are so informative.

Fasting 3/29
TSH 3.14 .450-4.5
t4, Free .95 .82-1.77
Thyroglobulin 5.8 .5 - 55.
Antithyroglobulin <20 0-40
TPO 27 0-34

Hemoglobin 11.4L 11.5 - 15.0
MCH 26.8L 27. -34.
MCHC 31.9L 32-36

4/7
MCHC 31.9L 32. - 36.
Iron, Serum 24L 35 - 155
Iron Saturation 7L 15 - 55
Vitamin B12 1123H 211 - 946
Folate >20 >3
Ferritin, Serum 8L 12 -150

My internist said that I am find with my thyroid. She said my iron was barely low and told me to take Feosol with Vit C. All this was through the medical assistant so I am left a bit confused.

I did tell her that I wanted to see an endocrinologist and she said I don't need to. Oh, I have had elevated thryroid in the past but was told it was from pregnancy.

Anywhoo, I really appreciate any feedback I can get from some of the more experienced mamas on this board.

Funcional range for TSH is 1.8-3.0 however i heard from JacquelineR that it is going to be changed to 2.5??? So it looks like your thyroid is slightly underactive. Do you feel hypo? The range they told you is typical Lab ranges which aren't right.

Did they not check your T3? I'm have no clue about the rest of your labs...sorry Wish I could help. Thyroid does tend to go a little wacky Post-partum that's when I noticed mine too. I think it's all the hormone fluctuations.

Hmmm. I think I am going to switch doctors for sure. I guess I'm curious about my level of anemia. The doctor told me I was anemic because I was calcium deficient. Is that possible? Also my B12 are elevated and folate. That should be a good thing though...I assume.

You might also ask for a hormone test (saliva test). My hypothyroid was/is related to severely low progesterone. The reg docs wanted to treat each symptom separately but my naturopath nailed in on the first try.

And I agree that you need an endocrine. My PCP actually told me that thyroid issues are "no big deal". Hello! It only controls a million things in the body!

I need my TSH to be below 1 in order to feel able to do anything at all.

Are you supping B12 or folate? As PP mentioned a saliva test would be great for you.Can you see a naturopath? That would be your best bet.

As far as the calcium/iron thing I'm not really sure. I always thought that calcium interfered with the absorption of iron Maybe start a thread on that and your high B12 and folate?

Are you symptomatic?
Low Iron Symptoms

Yes, calcium does inhibit iron absorption. I would ask your md to explain what he meant. I would also not work w/ any doctor who thinks thyroid imbalances are no big deal. Big red flag!
