Dada and baba everywhere

Miles is 13 mos and has been babbling. Daddy is dada and Devon is dede. I am baba most of the time.

Anybody else not getting mama yet? Except for when upset?

My DD is 15 months and she rarely says Mama too. She usually only says it when upset as well. But she will babble Dada all day long.

Yeah, sort of. DD still only says mama when upset but has no problem asking for a ball amongst other things when completely happy. She still doesn't say "daddy" (or the equivalent in Dh's language) but she'll call him baba.

I have a friend whose son didn't start calling her mama until he was about 2.5. He'd call her daddy and could speak just fine but he thought it was HILARIOUS to call her daddy.

we only got "mama" when upset (and it was "mamamamamammamamamaaaaaaa") until about, um, 2 weeks ago, maybe a bit longer. And now she says "mother". Only not to me. To dh, to ask where I am if I'm away from the two of them for longer than a couple of minutes.

He is "daddy" as in "where is daddy?" "hi daddy!".

I am "mother?"

My twins are almost 22 months and while dd has started calling me mama this last month ds still calls me baba. Baba is also used for milk and banana . They've called dh dada for quite a while now.

My son (14 months) has been saying "dada" for a while now, but says it at everything, including DH, the cats, his toys, pretty much anything he approves of. Or just randomly when he's having fun.

He also says "baba", and I just realized a couple of weeks ago that I think "baba" might be him trying to say "mama" and just not getting the "m" right. He does say "mama" prefectly clearly when he's upset/crying, though.

Don't worry, it will come!! DS is 14mos and has probably about 70 words now and I only got "mama" starting last week!! Now he says it all the time, "Momma. Momma? Momma. MOMMA!" hehe it's so cute & I love hearing it!!!! Just in time too because I was starting to get a little sad about him not saying it!

DD is 12.5 months and the only thing that she says that is at all recognizable is "Wha-z-at" while she is pointing at something and would like to know what the sign and word is for it!
Like today we were outside and she kept pointing at the grass and saying "wha-z-at"! Oh so cute!

She babbles alot but that is all we have for words, I can tell that she is trying to say some words but I have no idea what they are!

She has a signing vocab of about 60 words and picks them up very fast! I am having trouble keeping up with her!

Someday I am sure she say mama and dada, I'm not worried yet!

Does she babble when she signs? She might be saying more recognizable stuff than you realize. Check out the "let's play a game" thread to get an idea of how wacky toddler-ese can be.

Oh, and I know you know this, but be sure to verbalize her signs when she makes them. E.g. she signs for more apple and you say "more apple? okay, here some more apple" instead of "here".

We actually got this on video because it cracks us up...everytime I try to get DD to say mama she looks at me very seriously and says "Dada!". Everytime...the only time she says mama is when she's upset and wanting to nurse. She's starting to say "Nah" for nurse though, so doesn't say mama as much as she used to. DH has said that sometimes when I'm not there she'll say Mama, clear as day, but I still haven't heard her say it!

That's ds exactly but he's 15 mos. I love being baba. I think it's so cute. And yes, when he's feeling whiny I get something in between "mememe" and "mamama". He's starting to make more consonant sounds now though. When he sees a car, he says "Ca," and he says "Beh" to his bear.

LOL! This reminds me of my brother - he called my dad "mama" for the longest time! It really upset my dad b/c he wanted to be called "dada" - so my brother did it on purpose to see his reaction!!!
