Easy Pattern for Children's Shorts

I've used the trace an existing pair of shorts onto a t-shirt to make a pair of shorts for the kids, but I haven't been very thrilled with the results. I prefer going the pattern route since you get the extra room in the seat area. I already have some fabric on hand and I've made a few pairs of pants before so I figure it shouldn't be all that difficult.

I need something fairly unisex since I want to make a pair for ds (5yo) and dd (2yo). Any suggestions?

If you have a pants pattern, just shorten it. If nessisarry you can add width to the outside leg seam

That would work except that the pattern I have is for adults.

I forget where I saw it, but there are a ton of tutorials for making shorts from existing shorts - to make more room in the butt you just extend the curved crotch area a little on the back 2 peices. Thats always worked for me.

The store bought patterns I've used all seem to be pretty much exactly the same other than the length/width.
