Why is line drying worth the trouble? - Page 2

Putting clothes back in the dryer after they've been on the line makes no sense to me. Need to de-lint? Get a lint roller!

You can also cut down on lint by washing items that are not only similar in color, but fabric. Not washing a brown towel with dark colored shirts, for example (lint city!)

I save time by hanging my clothes in order: underwear, shirts, pants, etc. Then when I take the clothes down, I fold them as I go. This helps the family make sure clothes actually get put away!

My clothes line holds two full loads of laundry.

There are so many great responses already! I really liked this one.

The clothes dry faster in the summer on the line.

Electricity savings.

The methodical, repetitive movements are meditation in motion.

The smellgoodness, sanitizing, and stain removal are all chemical free.

It's better for the planet and all it's inhabitants.

Clothes last longer, esp those w/elastic.

I know this is kooky, but I feel a connection w/other women around the world doing a household task that is nearly universal down through our ancestry.

Notes: It really doesn't take long, if you factor in drying time, you actually have less time doing laundry. I don't always put them back in the dryer to fluff them, I use vinegar in the rinse cycle and otherwise give clothes a good "pop" when I take them off the line to soften them up.
I like to throw on my I Pod and listen to a book on tape while I hang laundry! Heck it's the only time I get to "read" anymore. And nothing is quite as nice as hanging out some laundry on a beautiful day.

When I look at the hydro meter most days it is barely moving. If I am in a jam and have to use the dryer the meter whirls around so fast it hurts my wallet!

i wash and hang diapers as well as clothes so i use vinegar in a fabric softener ball in all my loads. my diapers and clothes arent that stiff and they soften up real quick when you wear them. i shake my clothes out before i hang them and after i take them down while folding them.

I line dry because then I can feel self-righteous!

I don't actually go outside. My laundry is upstairs. I run a load while going about the nighttime routine. It is washed when kids are in bed, but not asleep. I then put the clothes on the line where they sit all night and then dry in the morning. I can often run another wash load at night and put that up in the morning. My line is outside my bedroom window and 2.5 stories off the ground so it doesn't interfere with any play going on in the backyard. I bring the clothes in when I am trying to wake the twins from nap.

It does take a bit more time but I try to hang the clothes by person so that when I take them in I can just fold and have them ready to put away. But I also listen to books on the ipod, so often I am off in Botswana with the no 1 ladies detective agency!

Dryers are a HUGE energy suck, at least where I live. I love my drying rack, which I can move outside on sunny days.
