I need the motivation to switch back!

I was vegan for a number of years, but reintroduced eggs and dairy back into my diet 2 years ago when I started powerlifting (I used egg whites and whey powder as my primary protein sources). My husband has remained vegan, and for the most part our shared meals are vegan, as I don't have the energy to cook two separate meals.

Anyways.. I want to go back. My daughter is colicky and fussy and chiro has helped immensely, but I know that if I cut dairy out, things will improve even more.

I have been trying to just phase the dairy out (I could give up eggs in a heartbeat), as I don't want to waste the food we already have, but I'm so terrible for letting my emotions get the best of me in the grocery store- That cheese looks so delicious! MMM Chocolate! (You know...)

Help me gather the willpower to just say NO to dairy! This should be easy- If I can quit smoking, i should be able to quit dairy.

You can do it! If you're being tempted in the grocery store try and focus on delicious vegan treats, like dark chocolate with no milk (yum!) or different snacks like nuts to fill up on instead of cheeses.

Check out The Ultimate Uncheese Cookbook by Joanne Stepaniak, and don't go food shopping when you're hungry.

Also, Daiya cheese is now available in retail packaging. If it's been awhile since you tried a vegan cheese, you may be astonished with what food science has done lately.

we have Sheese hanging out in our fridge and that's not bad, but of course it doesn't melt. Is this un-cheese you speak of better than Follow Your Heart? (*gag*)

And I do use nooch in lots of applications as well.

I think the nail's in the coffin. I had some yogurt before bed and my daughter was up ALL NIGHT.

What recipes do you recommend out of here? There are so many, I get overwhelmed and don't know where to start!

Also to the OP - have you tried making cashew cheese? We are biiiiiig fans of that around here. Here's one recipe (scroll down a bit for it).

Dairy was DS's colic trigger as a baby. He was so so much more comfortable when I eliminated it. Being completely dairy free (normally I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian on a low dairy diet since I'm very lactose intolerant) was a bit of a nuisance, but absolutely worth it for DS's comfort. It takes a several days to work out of you system, and not show up in your milk so you need to give it a couple of weeks, and even slight amounts will cause issues for a few days.

Send your DH to the store to avoid temptation.

You can have chocolate without dairy. Trader Joe's make a one pound bar of bitter sweet chocolate that is dairy free. Many brands of chocolate chips are also dairy free.

Daiya blows Sheese out of the water. It melts. And stretches. My obnoxious omni aunt thinks it's really good. My CAT wants to eat it.

Have you tried hemp protein powder instead of the dairy-based stuff? We love it here.

What one do you use? I've tried one (Living Harvest maybe?) and wasn't too impressed. It takes like 1/4 cup to get only 9 g of protein and I'm not a huge fan of the flavor. I'd love some recommendations for either neutral flavored powder or one that isn't too gritty...

I haven't tried all that many...after so many years without cheese it's not actually all that appealing to me anymore. I've mostly made things for other people. I haven't tried any of the block uncheeses. I've done the mac & cheese, the quiche, a rice casserole, the grilled cheese, and a few others. I was impressed with all the ones I tried.
