does she have a fairly regular early morning nursing time? like before dawn?

*maybe get a pumping in after that nursing session but before "wake-up" time
your milk making is in high production mode early in the a.m. because prolactin levels are up

*you can pump the other side while she is nursing on one side

*you can let her nurse and then pump immediately after

*if she is eating any food yet, you could pump when she eats her solids

How long will you actually be away from her and will you be able to resume nursing immediately upon returning from the study?

Tank her up immediately before leaving and if she does take any solid food, have her caretaker give her her usual solids early that morning while waiting for your return.

its until 6am she doesnt eat solids yet...if i pump before or right after wouldnt that either limit her milk for her feed or increase me milk so when she feeds she will get too much foremilk?

You can pump and then feed, because baby is much more effective then the pump. So pump one side while you nurse the other, then when you switch baby will just get more hindmilk out of side #2. You can try to pump the side she just nursed, but for me I never got anything. It will take a few days of this to get enough to feed her for a full day.

Mornings!

This recently came up at a LLL club meeting, and all the working moms agreed that first thing in the morning is the best. Not exactly sure why but that's when you'll get the most milk.
