Humidifiers?

For some reason this is one baby item that is sort of a mystery to me. I've never had one before and I understand that they're good for when your baby is stuffed up. What about if you live in a really dry climate? ...and your baby has been a little stuffy? Is it a good idea just to turn one on during sleep every time? Should you add anything to the water. Cool mist or warm mist? Which brand?

Thanks.

We haven't bought one. I find, that just hanging the laundry in the bedroom and letting it dry there or putting a pot with steaming water in a corner is good enough for us. I know some people would consider this a safety hazard. Or we take hot showers with the babe.

I found increased humidity gives great relieve for bronchitis and the like.

My little guy was born during the warm season and we ran one every night until the rains started. Not only for him, but for me, because I noticed that my nasal passages were super dry after I lost all the extra water/blood my body held onto during pregnancy. During the day I'd notice both of us would get snuffly, but each night it would go away.

definitely cool mist - you can't burn yourself on it.

I just picked up some random one at BRU - I was specifically looking for one that didn't have a filter that would need to be changed periodically - which can add up over time (and who knows if they'd still be making them next time I need to use it?).
