Beet kvas reaction or food poisoning?

I made beet kvas for the first time, but when I was filtering it out yesterday evening, I found mold on the top and some white film. I tried scraping it off, but didn't worry about it too much. I drank my first glass this morning around 9 am. It is 4:30 now and my stomach is cramping a great deal. I'm almost positive that it couldn't be anything else. I had some water kefir and lentil soup, all things I've had before, since then. Any ideas?

When I was making beet kvass, I usually had some white scum. I do an open-top method of fermenting, covering things with cheesecloth, so I take the lid off and de-scum every day--except when I forget. I do the same with veggie ferments, and occasionally forget and take off mold, without issue.

If you're really concerned, I'd dump this batch of beet kvass and start a new one, but just based on what you've described, it doesn't sound any different than my batches of kvass.

i've had that white film too, with no problems.
