The teeth!!

DS is 16 months and started getting teeth early. By a year he had 16 of them. Until now they didn't hurt but now I think the sheer length of them is what's causing me pain. They aren't rubbing me raw or anything but I have DEEP indents around my nipple for the longest time after he nurses. What should I do?

Holding a book or toy up above his head may help get him to open a little wider and not let those teeth rub. Also, my LC said it's common for a babie's latch to change with teeth so he may need to relearn to open wide when he latches.

Ok thanks. How do I reteach him to open wide?

If you're getting indents, he's doing something wrong. I get them sometimes too- most often when ds is trying to look around while nursing.

I got indents a lot when ever my son was teething or when he was getting used to his teeth...he liked to have a tighter latch probably to feel more pressure on his teeth. I would just unlatch him if it hurt and model opening his mouth wide. The book or toy held above him really helped the most because by looking up it made him lift those top teeth. Hope that helps!

Thanks! I tried the toy thing just now and it worked. I shoved the nipple farther in while he looked up. Still got slight teeth marks but nothing painful
