Conjunctivitis in kitten

I have a 10 week old kitten. She started squinting in one eye late yesterday and this morning her eye had discharge and was red. I took her to the vet who said she has conjunctivitis and prescribed erythromycin ointment for her eye. She has no other symptoms, no fever, lethargy, sneezing, etc, so I do not believe she has an upper respiratory infection.

My question is whether there is anything more that I can do to help her feel better. It is obvious her eye is really bothering her and I feel bad for her. She keeps meowing pitifully and scrubbing at her eye, poor thing.

Thanks!

A wet compress on her eye would feel good. If she does get a nasal discharge you can use phenylephrine nose drops (for people) to keep her airway clear.

Awee poor kitty

You could keep the kitten in a steamy bathroom (use humidifier) and as the pp said use hot compresses on her eyes to help the discharge clear. Only other thing is to watch for dehydration (by pulling the skin up at the nape of her neck) and if she is a bit, syringe feed some water every fifteen minutes. Other than that, lots and lots of love.

My 5yo cat had a squinting drippy eye a few weeks ago. I had no eye antibios on hand,so I ended up using chamomile tea.She was better in a few days.Eyebright tea is better for eye infections,or goldenseal tea is good too. I let the bag sit for a while in the hot water then I just dripped straight into the eye with the tea bag AFTER I wiped the eye with a tea soaked wash cloth.

I do the 3 day rule with pets as I do kids.If I am not seeing some improvement(not total recovery) in 3 days then I need to use something stronger or get to a doc/vet.
