black eye...need reassurance.....

Thread Starter
My 4 yo dd walked into a bathroom counter a couple of days ago. I didn't see it happen but the bruise went from the corner of her eye to half way down her cheek. The eye turned black which I know is bruising but in addition she developed 3 small cuts or cracks at the corner of her eye...they have scabbed now. Do the scratches suggest bone fracture? I know there's nothing to be done if there is a break but I have these images in my head of bits of broken bone penetrating her eye or floating around or something...do I need to worry about the cracks?

Yes. Take her to the doctor asap.

I agree that she should see a doctor ASAP. If she can't get into her regular doctor with that description, she should be taken to the ER immediately.

Please take great care where your child's vision in concerned, as injuries on or around the eye can result in blindness if left untreated.

Most likely you will come home with nothing more than the peace of mind of knowing that she is okay, and that is worth a great deal, too.

I'm not one to rush to the doctor but honestly I don't know how you didn't go that day! YES go to the doctor!

another vote for get her to the doctor. the development of the skin breaks _after_ the incident is definitely concerning.

Ummmmmmmm If you haven't already gone to the hospital you need to right this minute. She should have been seen earlier.

Always error on the side of caution with a possible skull fracture.

Any update?

Please, please take her to the ER immediately. And then update because I'm really worried about your LO.

A friend of a friend had an orbital fracture. The swelling inside, around the sinus cavities, tore the skin at the corner of her eyes.

OP, any updates? I've been thinking of you It must be scary to hear that what you thought was relatively minor could be quite serious. I hope you and your DD are doing okay.
