Tell me about your laundering system

I have 100% cotton fitteds and prefolds under wool covers. The whole stash is used except for a pack of GMD prefolds and GMD white fitteds which I am prepping using my crock pot and washing. Please include your laundry soap and drying methods.

We use BG AIO's, a few stray fitteds, some flats, and pul covers.

My system is lazy

I throw everything into a wetbag in dd's room. Except solids which I dump and then toss in the bag. I don't rinse.

As soon as the bag is full, I toss it in the laundry with the other unpaper items in my home.

I was in a front loader, regular cycle, hot water, sometimes extra rinse if I feel concerned about the soil level.

I wash with regular laundry soap (i think Sun?) If the diapers have been coming out a bit stinky I will add vinegar to the softener compartment on my machine.

I dry the full load in the dryer, unless it is super warm outside then I hang dry. The BG take forever to dry, so they will also be put up on the line after a full run in the dryer to complete drying.

After almost four years, I haven't had much of an issue with build up. I have stripped the dipes once.

I have an entirely natural fiber stash (organic cotton, hemp), prefolds and fitteds. I do a dry pail, and right now am washing every 3rd day. I use half a scoop of Country Save in the prewash cup of my FL, 2 Tbs of BS in the wash cup and maybe 1/4 c of vinegar in the rinse cup (just fill it to the line). I run a prewash/heavy duty cycle/extra rinse. Then I dump them in the dryer for 85 minutes on high. If we happen to have sun that day, I might sun something.

I use cotton pf and flats. I store the dirties in a dry pail in the bathroom, I shake out solids and then stick them in the pail.

On wash day, I dump everything into the washer for a quick cold cycle to get more of the poo out as I do a lazy job of getting it off the diaper. Then a hot wash with a scoop of Charlies Soap and I usually do a soak as I found it helps with stains and stuff. Then a hot rinse or two (till I see no suds) and in the dryer or on the line depending on the weather.

I have tried tons of other detergents, but always had issues, but haven't needed to strip since I started with the CS around a yr ago.

In the beginning I kept my routine as simple as possible and only changed it up as needed.

Cotton fitteds and PUL covers for the most part over here (And a handful of terry flats and a few BG 3.0s)

Dry pail (Still EBF, so no dumping or swishing yet)

They go into the washer (HE front loader), Long Hot wash, cold rinse with a tiiiiny bit of detergent (Nature Clean), then another Short cold wash, cold rinse with no additives, then into the dryer for about 90 minutes with a pair of dryer balls.

I use mostly thin cotton fitteds, and some pockets with flats and hemp/microfiber inserts.

I rinse poopy diapers (usually not until wash day). I wash every 2 days, pretty much.
-cold rinse, low water level (sometimes I add Amaze laundry powder to this)
-hot wash cycle, highest water level, 3/4 amount of NatureClean detergent.
-warm wash cycle, either low or medium water level depending on load size.

OR if I've had some stink,
-cold rinse, low water
-hot wash cycle, high level, 2 tbsp powdered Tide
-warm wash cycle
at this point, I check for suds, and do another full warm cycle if there are suds.

Thanks all

Laura is BF'd so I don't rinse yet.

Straight into the drybag (GMD)
Cold rinse (no soap)
Hot Wash/rinse (not very hot) with something free--Mela Power, ECover, Ecos
Extra Rinse cycle
Dryer until mostly dry then hang.

Sometimes a touch of vinegar

Poop stains are out and I have no urine or poo smell in any room. I will lanolize and wash wool around the first of the month and strip the first of the month--same time the dog gets her flea and tick and heartworm stuff--easy to remember.

I am super lazy.

We diaper with a mix of flats, cotton fitteds and wool, and pockets.

Diapers go in a wool hanging wet bag (which I am super happy with - no smell AT ALL since I started using it), I usually wash every other day. Dump them all into the machine. Hot wash, two rinses. Right now I use All F&C Military, which has no optical brighteners, but I'm not that picky. Homemade detergent or anything that's unscented is fine by me. I usually hang the pockets if I remember to fish them out before they go into the dryer. Everything else just goes through one dryer cycle. Some of my thicker fitteds won't be 100% dry after that, so I'll lay them to dry overnight. That's it.

I use quite a variety of materials. I have flats, AIOs, fitteds...

I have a dry pail. I wash every other day. I do a cold rinse, hot wash with detergent (my own homemade), cold rinse. Anything that is stained goes outside to dry in the sunshine. Covers hang dry inside. Everything else goes into the dryer on regular heat. Once a month, I put about 1/4 cup non-chlorine bleach in with the first rinse and use Tide (regular powder) instead of my homemade detergent, and if anything feels less than soft, I'll use some ecover softener then too.

We use fitteds (mostly bamboo but a few cotton), prefolds and pocket diapers with bamboo inserts. I dry pail everything together, including the family cloth and when the pail is full I dump it in the front loader. I use the sanitize cycle with a prewash and 2 extra rinses at the end (all programed at the beginning so I only need to go back to it when it's ready for the dryer). I use a full cap of detergent. It all comes out clean and free of soap. It's a pretty basic routine.

I have a dry pail. We use mostly pockets, but use some prefolds and wraps as well.

I wash once a day, in the evenings. I do a cold rinse with All Free and Clear, then a hot wash with no detergent. Then I throw everything in the dryer.

My stash consists of mostly cotton prefolds and pull wraps I also have sandy bamboo diapers and small nanabottom AIOs.
Diapers once dirty are stored in a kitchen sized trashcan with a planet wise pail liner..
on wash day every 2-3 days or when the pail fills...
1) remove liner with dirties and take to garrage where the washer is
2_ toss in the contents including the pail liner
3) add one scoop powdered Tide with bleach
4) wash on hot large load heavy duty wash cycle with extra rinse selected
5) transfer diapers to dryer
6) dry regular heat

Yea that it so far we are leak free.. stain free... stink free... rash free...
SO I ain't changing things..

We use prefolds, mostly.

I rinse on cold, wash on hot, extra rinse with vinegar. We use Purex Free & Clear. Dry on high, no dryer sheet. Never have had to strip, just occasional extra EXTRA rinses with vinegar.

I love a simple routine. We have a mix of prefolds, MotherEase bamboo, and a couple of BG pockets. I have a front loader and wash every few days. I set the machine for a pre-wash, a long hot wash cycle and an extra rinse. I use a small amount of regular detergent(currently Gain HE) and a tsp of bleach. Everything gets tumbled dry on hot. I believe the bleach really helps at keeping stink away, especially helpful during the toddler stage. I think it also allows me to not have to be so picky about which detergent I'm using. Our diapers always come out fresh smelling and stain free.

Can we sticky this Moderator?

This is great info consolidated for the new CD'er.

We have homemade flannel flats and homemade bamboo velour fitteds with interlock wool soakers(we are just using nighttime and naptime diapers now). Everything is stuck in a dry pail and washed every 2-3 days. I have a whirlpool duet washer so I set it to heavy duty with an extra rinse and it runs a hot wash and 2 rinses total and I use tide he detergent. Then everything gets line dried outside. No problems!

Hahaha, I am so lazy. My system is: chuck the dirty diapers into the washer along with whatever dirty clothes and towels are on the floor around the house, add normal amount of normal detergent, wash on normal setting in cold water, then pop in the dryer or hang on the clothesline. I've never found any need to do complicated systems when this works perfectly well.

Will you share your homemade detergent recipe? I recently started making my own, and I'm not super ecstatic about it, but it works ok. My little girl should be here in about a month, and I'll be using CDs for the first time, so I'm not sure if my homemade detergent will be OK to use on the diapers. I'm planning on using pocket dipes.

I use this ratio: 1/3 bar (grated) Dr. Bronner's castille soap, 1c borax, 1c washing soda, 1/4c oxygen bleach. I use it just powdered (though I have made it into a gel/liquid and like it as well, just too time consuming), 2tbsp per load. I have hard-ish water. I'm not sure how this formulation will work with a lot of fleece and microfiber (which is typical with pockets), but I use it successfully with the following stash: Flats, prefolds, Thirsties fitteds, bG bamboo fitteds, bG deluxe AIO, bG Org AIO, GroBaby, Thirsties covers, and Flips (when I had them).
