Tell me about your laundering system - Page 2

I throw mine into a dry bucket and throw them into the washing machine every two days. I find they get stinky so I do a hot water wash with detergent and vinegar (because it seemed to help get the urine smell out), then cold water rinse. An extra rinse or two if still stinky or soapy.

Anything I can do to get the urine smell out more? I wish I didn't have to rinse and run the machine an extra few times. $$$ Should I do a rinse cycle in cold first?

I was also wondering if a wet pail would result in less stinky dipes that require fewer cycles.

it's typically found in the laundry isle of local grocery stores, and is made by Arm and Hammer (but it is different than baking soda).

I would definitely do a cold rinse first. I find that a cold rinse helps keep stains at bay, for one thing. Second, if I do a cold rinse first, I typically don't have to do all those follow-up rinses after my hot wash.

I just scanned thru, but no one mentioned soapnuts that I saw. I have used them for 6 months. They are great! scent free natural etc. A good price, too. I use them for all my laundry. They are not the greatest for stains, so I add borax or oxybleach some. I put vinegar in the rinse often, too.

I dry pail wash every 2-3 days.

I have a front loading machine, and right now I'm just washing diapers for a newborn.

I do a long cold cycle with my prefolds and covers using Tide Free for cold water. Then I fish the covers (proraps, bummis and mother-ease) out of the machine and hang them up to dry, and do another wash cycle with hot water and more detergent (tide free) and an extra rinse.

When I had a top loading machine I did a pre-soak and added things like washing soda or borax (kind of randomly -- I never made up my mind what worked best.)
