Anyone working part-time? What do you do? - Page 2

I just started teaching a couple of fitness classes @ our local Y so I am very, very part time! It is mostly because I wanted the membership that comes with being an employee but we don't have the $ to pay for one- compared to others in the area, our Y is ridiculously expensive...

My DH works part-time from home scoring standardized tests online. He works for ETS and Pearson. If you have a college degree of any kind, you can try to get on with them, but it sometimes takes months before they call in new applicants, especially in this economy when everyone is looking for part-time work. And it's only project-based, so he'll go months with nothing and then have a whole bunch of projects for a few months. He is a SAHD to our 2 year old and our upcoming new baby. Last year he made about $4000, but he's putting in more hours this year so far.

I'm a part time dentist! I practice Mondays and Wednesdays - for a total of 16 hours a week. I also take the month of July off every year. I have the best boss in the best practice who totally 'gets it' It was even his idea that I take July off!!!

DH owns his own practice and we live on his income comfortably but it provides him a measure of comfort that I could support us if need be - by going FT to supplement his disability ins (or life insurance) if something awful were to happen. And I just plain enjoy what I do and the people I work with and the patients I see. 2 days works very well for us as a family. We have a nanny 3 days a week so that I can volunteer in the older kids' school and get mundane chores done without dragging the little guy around with me or plunking him in front of the TV.

I work very part time... 6 hours/week (1.5 hours 4 days/week) as a lunchroom/playground monitor at the elementary school my kids attend. It's convenient for me because I can bring my baby and preschooler with me when necessary. My littlest guy always comes with me, the preschooler rarely.

I'm a cost accountant, working Tues-Thur 8 hour days, and am trying to figure out how to change my schedule for next school year to make things work better when DS's school hours change. I LOVE the flexibility I have and the people I work with but I HATE the job.

I'm working part time right now. My hours vary a lot depending on what I'm working on and how many "emergencies" I take on. I like to think that when my business gets more established I'll be able to keep to a schedule. Although, I'm sure that will all go out with window next tax season.

I am The Children's Program Coordinator at a Transitional Housing Facility for victims of Domestic Violence. I work 20 hrs per week opposite of DH so we get to keep what I make rather than spend it on child care!

I work PRN as an RN, anywhere from 0-39 hrs a week. I probably average ~15 hrs. I love the flexibility of my job. I basically fill in the "scheduling holes", and I have some choice in which shifts I accept. It sucks to have zero benefits at work, but at this point, the flexibility is worth it. I have to work, but I'm OK with that. I'm working where I always wanted to work, I'm still home with my kids part of the week, and I love my work-life balance at this point.
