Safe ways to encourage labor

I am 37 weeks today and am trying to avoid induction. Baby will be remeasured next Weds. and because of big size, previous delivery issues, and a blood clotting disorder, my OB doesn't want me to go much past 38 weeks. I was only a fingertip dialted 2 days ago, and I know that doesn't mean anything if she is ready to come. But I would really like to go into labor naturally and I know some things that help, but wanted your advice on safe methods.

I already know to have sex, DH didn't forget that one from last pregnancy. LOL!!

nipple stimulation
homeopathics such as black and blue cohosh
Walking
Accupressure/ Accupuncture/ Chiropractor
EPO
Castor Oil (I personally do not recommend)
Spicy Foods that stimulate your bowels

Good luck! I tried almost all of these when I was post dates with my first and not one worked for me. Baby just came when he was ready. Maybe because of the circumstances in your situation though, one of these will help help coax baby out. Babies know when to come and if it is important health wise for the baby to arrive early, she will! Lots of love and energy to you!

Oh my gosh the pineapple!! This one made me giggle because it reminded me when I was pregnant with my DD. I was also trying to avoid induction with her and I ate SO MUCH PINEAPPLE. I had heard that only fresh pineapple worked and that you had to eat alot of it. So I went and bought like 4 pineapples and just started eating them. I was so sick of pineapple by the second day I could puke. It cracks me up just thinking about it now.

If you have a birthing ball, doing some hula hoop motions while sitting on it helps. It helped me anyways. My DD had dropped already and walking and doing that exercise helped greatly.

Ditto to eating LOADS of pineapple!! Didn't do a thing for me though... did enjoy the taste though.

Acupuncture can help, and next time I meet with my doula, she is going to show me some acupressure points that encourage things. I'll pay attention for you - I don't plan on encouraging anything unless I'm in danger of going too long.

Flax seed oil instead of EPO - it's much more concentrated and more effective.
Lots of exercise
Pulsatilla and Caulophyllum

Personally if it was the choice between "natural" remedies and pitocin/cervadil, I would start with the flax seed oil for a couple days to ripen the cervix and then move on to the homeopathics (pulsatilla + caulophyllum) and then black and blue cohosh. But that's JMHO

EPO, spicy foods, walking and sex (using EPO as a lube) got me going last time!

So you actually put EPO inside of the vajajay?

Also with Flaxseed oil, how do you use that?

I did the pineapple with last baby too and ate so much my tongue got raw! lol

You use the flax seed oil the same as EPO - capsules as close to your cervix as you can get and also orally.
I'd start with one a day each way and go from there.

I think just being as active as possible really can help! Good luck, mama.

Well, I would insert a soft cap as high as I could and then lay down right away.
But as lube, it was easier and got even higher up there. My husband would put it on himself before we DTD. Sorry if TMI I just figured I needed to
explain it a bit more.

Can you use flax seed oil as lube? Wasn't sure which you were referring to.

Im so laughing right now at some of you. And this is my 5th, Im a doula for over 7 years and a midwife student and had never heard of the pineapple thing. Love learning something new everyday.

Just FYI , none of these fabulous suggestions will work if your body/baby isn't ready to come.

I had several of the mentioned things with my last pregnancy, measuring large, history of big baby, one shoulder distochia and on Heprin for clotting issues. Tried nipple stimulation the week before he came on his own at 38 1/2 weeks

good luck momma

I had to post this. I read it on another forum. Evidently the restaurant where is comes from has a success rate of 300 births within 48 hours eating it. I don't know if I desperate enough yet to make it, but in another week or two...

Haha- I would give it a whirl just b/c I love Eggplant Parmigiana

Here in the LA area, everyone goes to this one restaurant for this labor-inducing salad...its like an episode of Seinfeld
I think I will go this pregnancy- maybe in a week- just for kicks...

What I want to know is 300 out of how many women have tried it! They seemed to have left that out!

Crashing...

I did EPO (orally , blue cohash, and RRL tea. Just FYI I put droplets of the cohash in the tea and my midwife says that sometimes they use it to get a stalled labor going. Be careful with it! My doc at the time recommended it bc I was a week late. She advised me to not use black cohash.
It worked three days after doing that rotation, of course I was also ten days late!
