Anyone travel to legoland or Disneyland?

Thread Starter
We may go to Lego land and/or Disney Land. I looked at the Lego land website, and it doesn't look as though there is a single item in the restaurants that are safe for my dd. I did not check the Disney Land website.

Has anyone gone to these places with food allergies to deal with? Any recommendations on places to stay and places to eat at either of these locations that are allergy friendly?

Any other allergy related tips for either destination?

ETA - the allergies are dairy, soy, peanuts, and tree nuts.
Legoland website had 1 bulleted group of items that were soy free that would be safe but was at a location they said to avoid if there is a nut allergy, so that is a no go.

I know that Disney World (FL) is supposed to be fantastic for food allergies. Don't know if the same holds true for Disneyland. They even stock gluten free rolls for burgers and stuff at the Disney World restaurants. We're probably going next year.

FWIW, we went to Legoland last month and even though the website says you can't bring in outside food, they don't check your bags at all. Kinda odd, b/c places like Disneyland really look through your stuff to make sure you don't have any weapons. We went 5 times during our stay, and no one at Legoland ever asked to even see our bags.

Disneyland - Most places will have all the ingredients listed - and I noticed specific nut-free items. I think I even saw gluten-free options. Also, there are quite a few restaurants at Downtown Disney right outside the entrance, so you don't have to choose between only the food vendors inside the park.

Have you been to disboards? i would search food allergies over there or ask about your specific requirements b/c they seem to have an answer for everything Disney related.

I know Legoland has gluten free pasta & gluten free cereal. We opted to have a nice picnic in the grass just outside the gate but they didn't search our stroller so I think we could have taken in food. Seaworld is super restrictive about what you can bring in (search your bags) and even they say it's fine to bring in food if you have food allergies. No one wants to be sued. Jimbo's is a great natural food store not too far from Legoland if you need to stock up once you arrive.

At Disneyland, you can ask to talk to the chef and explain your child's allergies, and they will accommodate you (at sit-down restaurants).

I think Disney's accommodation of food allergies is legendary among families with allergy issues. They'll break out a new pan if you ask them to.

I had a friend go who loves them! She did say they had to contact beforehand so that the chef would have safe ingredients on hand, ect. but that they were excellent!

As for bringing in your own food, it is actually part of the ADA that ANYWHERE HAS to let you bring in your own food if you have a "disability". I would print up a copy and have it in your food bag incase of any issues,

I can say first hand that Disney *World* is fantastic for food allergies and we don't even have any diagnosed allergies (yet). We were there last year and asked the server about getting some lactose-free milk for DS1 and the chef came right out to our table to talk with us. Unfortunately they didn't have any lactose-free milk but they did have soy and rice. The chef was more than happy to discuss every item on the buffet and the ingredients to make sure it was ok for us.

As an aside, our son does have environmental allergies and we were able to ask for special cleaning routines for our room. Before our visit our room was completely cleaned using environmentally-friendly cleaning products, the air filter was changed and nothing scent-y was left in the room. While we stayed there they limited their use of cleaning products (mostly used in the bathroom), they did not vacuum and they left the sheets on the beds.

Just thought I would add that in there for anyone with environmental allergies thinking of staying on site at Disney. You have to ask for it in advance but it's easy to do, just call the booking number or have your travel agent do it.

Another tip I've learnt is not to stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge if you have allergies! The animals are fairly close to the resort.
