The Uglies

Ok, I ordered the Uglies and the Pretties for DD.

I got the Pretties - but it turns out I cannot get the Uglies through the library. I might be able to inter library loan it but that takes a while.

Can you read the Pretties without reading the Uglies first?

Is the book good enough that it is worth it to go out and buy the Uglies?

I would read Uglies first then Pretties because the three books really do tell the whole story. You could probably pick up the storyline midway through, but it's better to read the first one in the trilogy first.

It wouldn't make any sense. You need to read uglies first.

Thanks -some series you can jump into in the middle, but I guess this is not one of them, lol.

I think it's worth buying Uglies. I thought it was a really well-done series. I read it as an adult and really enjoyed it. If I had a teenage daughter, it's the kind of series I'd like her to read -- empowering, with a strong female protagonist, and raising interesting questions about conformity, beauty and environmentalism.
