I love having a newborn because...

I have to say, I think the newborn phase might be my favorite phase. I love my kids, but newborns are just so sweet and cuddly and... I keep getting sad thinking this might really be my last one - I'm just enjoying it so much!

Anyway, beyond that, i thought it'd be fun to make lists of other little things that are great about having newborns.

soooo... here's ones I've been thinking of...

- gives me an excuse to feed my cloth diaper AND my babywearing addiction...
- knitting newborn items is *so* much faster than knitting bigger things
- newborns smell good
- grunty little newborn noises are just about the sweetest thing EVER
- newborns are not that heavy to carry (or wear) around everywhere (although mine's trying to outgrow that ASAP )
- it's so much fun to watch their little personalities bloom... and wonder what they'll be like later...
- newborns look like little old men (ok, mine does, at least) and it cracks me up
- first smiles, first giggles
- I love watching a newborn try and figure out how his limbs work - waving them around and looking freaked out when he brushes his arm past his face
- toothless mouths
- they way newborns look at *everything* like "WTF is THAT??"
and then the same look at the next thing they see...
- the sheer joy and excitement when they know they're gonna be fed (i.e. when I break out the boob)

Please add yours!!

cute thread!

-seeing so many changes happen right in front of my eyes
-the smell of her breath...when she yawns i always go in for a good sniff!
-watching her eat and thinking about how amazing it is that this litle person is growing and functioning from only my breast milk.
-no stinky diapers!

The way they fit perfectly curled up on your chest!
Their skinny little chicken legs.
The huge farts that come out of their tiny bodies.

She looks at me like I am the sun, coming to warm her world.

I never have to beg, negotiate, argue, or any of the other interactions I have with my 3yo, just my presence (and nursies, of course) are enough to fix most any problem.

still 1ht, so this will be brief, but I love:

smiles and giggles in sleep in babies too little to do it while awake

babies "singing" in their sleep - both of mine have done this a LOT - that little noise on every exhale when they sleep. not all the time, just mainly when in the carrier for some reason

those chubby neck rolls! i LOOOOVE sticking my nose in there. and the smell of their heads.

the "head-launching" effect, when they have just started to control their heads but loose it every so often and launch their round little heads into whatever happens to be in front of them.

that dopey "milk-drunk" look they get. mine gets a bit cross-eyed and has her little tongue hanging out.

I love that. I also love the random silly faces newborns make. They crack me up.

I love baby feet!!! http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pi...0&id=680844712

I love tiny newborn clothes, tiny newborn diapers, and tiny newborn breath ... heck, they even smell decent after spit-up (but somehow I stink?! how does that work?!)!

I love the grunty sound Hazel makes as I'm getting out the boob for nursing... she's so eager and excited and it's just sweet!

I love that she is here, living, breathing and thriving all because of me. I grew her and fed her in my belly, and now I'm working on growing her and feeding her on the outside as well, transitioning her into this world....

I love when they are rooting and you kiss their cheek and they open their mouth and turn toward you so fast, and in that moment before they get mad and realize there is no boob there, when they are just shaking their head with their mouth open like a baby bird...

(and mine looks like a little old man too ... I think my DD did too though...)

sleepy one-eye half open nursing. Or the way when I pick him up he gives me this look like "wait, are you the boob lady? you smell like her... make with the milk, lady!"

OH! And I love how a newborn's arms barely reach the top of their head. It cracks me up when they sleep like this: http://likeabluecandy.com/gallery/sl...do?id=00001561 (that was Oliver and Sophia, though... but avery was sleeping like that this morning and it was *just* too cute)

Funny...I've been thinking all along how this is my least favorite age: needs constant soothing, evening fussiness, nursing problems, and so on. But some of these are so true as well...I love the "WTF is THAT??" look. LOL!
