Sharp Excruciating Low Back Pain

I struggled with low back pain (base of my spine right in the center) throughout my DD's pregnancy. It was painful, but not debilitating.

This time around it started up earlier than before, so I started seeing a chiro for it. It has started getting progressively worse and the chiro isn't really helping much anymore.

It comes in waves and usually while walking or standing. It's only when my weight is on my left leg. It's enough sometimes to drop me to my knees because I can't hold my own weight up under the pain.

I'm going to call my midwife tomorrow morning about tomorrow because I can't even hardly take care of my DD right now. I've tried chiro adjustments and TBM, yoga exercises (cat/cow poses), icing it, and arnica gel.

Anyone have any brilliant ideas about what may be causing this or how to get rid of it?

I have intense sciatica pain in pregnancy too. Hot bath, heating pads, ice and sitting on a birth ball instead of a chair help some.

I DO NOT do yoga in pregnancy as it makes it worse.

I'd try finding another chiro. I had one last pregnancy that absolutely made it worse and switched to someone who helped alleviate some of the pain.

Omega 3's are also good for the inflammation that causes sciatica.

Often sciatica is over/misdiagnosed so don't assume that's it. I thought I had this too but it's really problems with my sacroiliac joint. It is debilitating. I can't put weight just on my right leg standing sometimes, when I bend over there is a horrible sharp pain when I rise back up that I have to just push through. Google it, there are some easy recommendations. I find that heat packs help, and pelvic tilts too. Good luck!

This is me! The descriptions fit perfectly.

Some of the articles I've read on treatment of it say to stay away from the chiro, but that would seem to be the opposite of what I need if a joint is having trouble.

When I had the pain with my DD, I did hundreds of pelvic tilts a day as that was the only thing that seemed to make it better. I've got to get back to tilting away again this time too.

Out of curiosity...did you have any trouble with your babe's positioning as a result? My dd was horribly positioned and led to a really long, hard labor. I've always wondered if it had anything to do with my back and joints being so screwed up.
