This article is terrible, scroll down to the Eating Up the Budget section! I mean the author is obviously spewing misinformation
I am kinda peeved! First a pump is NOT required, Neither are milk storage bags, nor are nursing bras, or breast milk storage bags! As for nursing pads..I went through MANY! Oh so many..I had an oversupply, then went down barely anything, then finally back to normal!

How to save: Pediatricians often have free formula samples, notes Sandberg. Also, sign up for coupons at the formula company's website. If you're breastfeeding, "buy breast pads and freezer bags month-to-month and finish them before buying another," says Bradford. "Women often don't know how long they'll breastfeed and supplies are expensive." Also, rather than buying the 2- to 4-ounce baby bottles that you'll only use for a few months, buy the 8-ounce bottles, which have greater longevity.
^^^^I mean REALLY?!^^^^

Oops I am so mad I repeated myself about the milk storage bags! Sorry!

Arghh, i have actually met several bottlefeeding moms who have said they started their children on solids because formula was too expensive.

For some of us, nursing bras really are necessary. And I agree with the advice to only buy a month's worth or whatever of nursing pads at a time, because you don't know how long you'll be leaking. I had an excellent supply, but didn't leak past 2-3 months, unless I was at work and didn't get to pump in time.

I am however so glad to see so many women who are pro BF!
I was also irked for them saying sign up for free samples, babies cannot be switched from formula to formula correct?
I just wish it had gone into the benefits of BF there are some costs, but not nearly as much as formula!

I know right Hehe! I have a small chest, so I buy lined bras and my boobies flop out well. Just ask my 1yr old she is a pro at getting then out herself. Like the one time in front of the cable guy, and in Whole Foods market. Everyone in Whole Foods thought it was funny.
Also they could have mentioned getting on WIC, and getting a loaner breast pump! Then they'd also save on some groceries.
Also what about the fact BF babes get sick much less. Require less bottles..I think we have 2! My kids never really took to bottles. One of my best friend's DD never took one bottle! Not one!
I especially loved my Glamourmom Tanks though...they are pricey..but compared to FF still much cheaper.
I guess this is one quote that made me most irked!
"Women often don't know how long they'll breastfeed and supplies are expensive."
It's that attitude that contributes to such a low BF rate in America!

It certainly assumes a lot! Like that you will need to be pumping all the time and buying lots of bags. A breast pump can also be used again for the next child. Like other people, I had to cringe at the "you don't know how long you will be doing it for" remark.
Not to mention that they listed the minimum cost for formula. My DD is allergic to dairy, corn and soy. Finding a formula without those things is not only difficult but VERY costly. No, BF is not "free" but it IS more economical.

My brother was like that as a baby, now mind you this was in 1988..the cost of his can of formula?! 35 a can! Insanity.
