Newbie and a VERY new Pregnancy

Hello All. Long time lurker, first time poster.

I'm a 26 year old female currently working as a medical receptionist at an OBGYN office. DP is 24 and we have been together for 5 years now.

Yesterday I got my first BFP in about 90 seconds and went out to buy 2 more digital tests, because I couldnt believe it. All positive. We werent trying to get pregnant, but its a blessing nonetheless. We've talked about children in our future, just didnt expect it to happen so soon!

The only real thing prompting me to test was that my nipples have been super sensitive for the past week or so. Ive had this happen for a day or two around my period, but never had it last this long!

My LMP was somewhere around St. Patricks Day, and I had nice EWCM around March 29th-ish. Based on that, Im guessing Im due somewhere around late December/early January.

My head is spinning with the recent revelations. Its so crazy to be over the moon and yet so scared at the same time. Working where I do allowed me to tell my midwife no more than 12 hours after I found out. Shes so great. I asked her to order serial labs for me (mostly for peace of mind) and had my first draw today. Even though we arent open on Saturdays she said she would call me with the results.

Its so overwhelming! I feel like I should be researching on 20 million different things but have no idea where to start!

Thankfully Ive already built up a medium-sized stash of cloth. That will be a huge help. Ive also looked into info on vaccines, babywearing, cosleeping, breastfeeding, etc. I feel very *in tune* with a lot of the ideas of attachment parenting. Guess it will be interesting to see how it goes as I put it all into play.

Welcome!

One of the blessings of pregnancy is you have almost a year to prepare for the changes of motherhood, more than plenty of time to research everything to death if you desire, doing a little bit each month. I would suggest spending fifteen minutes each week reading under family safety boards as you will be buying and collecting things for your LO. Beyond that, Mothering boards have SO much information, just reading what has already been put out is a great way to get "up to speed" on all the idea's that are being shared and likely more comprehensive than any book on parenting you'd ever find.

Good new's about your nipples, as it seems the more they change during pregnancy the higher likelihood that lactation with be swift and supply healthy. I was very surprised how much my breasts changed from even the first few weeks! Enjoy this time and all the changes you are experiencing.

If I was to give one tip to a newly pregnant friend it would be to check out hypnobabies (not to be confused with hypnobirthing) and start with the Joyful Pregnancy CD. It was a great help to me throughout my pregnancy and labor.

Thank you for the welcome!

Im glad you posted the link to hypnobabies. It seems like its towards the things I would like to use in pregnancy/birth, albeit slightly pricey. My midwives at my office are pretty natural and have even worked as home birth midwives in the past. Unfortunately that is not the case with the office I work for, and I will be delivering in the hospital, but I plan on staying firm in my birth plan decisions (once I research them a bit more ).

Should be pretty exciting to start looking into hypnobirthing, natural pain management techniques, vocalization, etc once that time comes.

Ive already started to talk to DP about some of my "hippie views" and he seems like hes being very supportive of them so far.

I worry about what we will do financially once the baby is born, only because of the economy right now. I cant see us not needing to both work anytime soon, and am kind of crushed that that may possibly deter our nursing relationship.

Worries worries worries. LOL. But DP has been very sensitive to my needs since we have found out and I look forward to growing in our love for eachother as well as our growing little babe.

The midwife called me back this evening with Friday's results.

Beta hCG was 288
Progesterone was 13.

She said this is right on track with a pregnancy that is about 4-5 weeks along.

Im still going to have my levels drawn on Monday, to see if the hCG is near doubling as it should be. Im starting to feel a little more at ease, though.

I'd recommend reading reassuring books like Ina May's Guide to Childbirth.

I have heard wonderful things about that book...maybe I'll ask my midwife tomorrow if she has it that I can borrow.

Does it talk about pregnancy in general though?? Or just childbirth? I have the What to Expect... book, but Im hesitant to make that my go-to book, as Ive heard it can be pretty gloom and doom. So far Ive skipped past a bunch of info on the first trimester screenings and such....things I know we wouldnt want done.

FWIW, hypnobabies seemed a bit pricey to me, too, but honestly, it was worth every penny and then some. It helped me deal with my anxiety, helped me with the pains of pregnancy and then I had an awesome, perfect birth to my 9 1/2 lb baby! I only wish I hadn't shied away from it b/c of the price for the previous two births.

Anyway, i highly recommend it Totally worth the price.

So...my first beta hCG (drawn Friday) was 288.

Second draw (drawn Monday) was 1931!!

Good news all around...I think. The beta seemed a bit high for only being about 72 hours apart....but what do I know? lol.

One of the docs at my office joked about twins....she was just joking, right?

Welcome...and I too am new here. I work as a doula, and I really like Ina's book too. One thing I always stress to my clients - remember YOU are the parent and can make whatever decision YOU feel is best for your own child...not the doc or your parents or a friend or ?

Have fun, it's a wonderful experience and when you have accomplished the birthing process and realize the power that mother's just have within us to do what we were made to do...you will understand that YOU can do whatever needs to be done as time passes and your little one grows!
